Asked about the One in Five sculptures today, what are they and why does this matter.
First they are made from:
Pallets
Cut into 55 useable pieces.
Then hand sanded twice.
Each painted the colours of Nova Scotia
275 old nails/screws of different shapes and sizes (like humans) found.
275 nails or screwed placed appropriately on wood. Some standing tall and healthy, some not.
55 near finished pieces individually titled 1/5
55 near finished pieces signed and dated.
55 pieces provided protective finish.
55 bags numbered 1-55.
55 finished pieces bagged for delivery.
Placed in opened box for delivery.
Long project. Casino Nova Scotia celebrate going in-line while I was producing them. Ironic.
Why does this matter?
Simple. Following the gifting laws of Nova Scotia seemed simple enough. I’m used to government rules around gifting.
I do feel passionate about the rate of addiction in Canada, it’s rapid increase and do intend to keep encouraging governments to think about decisions connected to the sale, use, investment in of addictive substances. Just to think about ramifications of government decisions. Government budgets.
So, how does an artist produce and ensure the pieces end up in the hands of the elected officials in Nova Scotia?
We want to know.
I need to know😉
