Shoutout to the incredible and quirky Lucky’s Comics and more (in Vancouver).
I really appreciate that Lucky’s has always been a place (and there aren’t many of them) where I can find a wide array of to browse and buy.
Yesterday, we went into the city to hang out all up and down Main Street—our absolute favourite area of Vancouver; our regular getaway for years and years. Lucky’s has extensive and unique collections of comics and graphic novels, of course, but the “and more” in their masthead is an extremely well-curated selection of every genre of book imaginable—plus, offerings you definitely won’t find anywhere else (even their children’s section is incredible; I’m a K-5 teacher-librarian, so take it from me).
I was glad to have a chance to see the Spores Illustrated show in the mini-gallery, and to also pick up the no.1 edition, which I didn’t have already. I got the funny, but all-too-real-these-days Signs That You Are Getting Old zine by and Paper Rag caught my attention. There were perhaps another 30 zines that I kinda wanted to buy, but…been trying to curb bookish spending a tiny bit lately (till I can work through my considerable TBR pile). But, I had to also grab the micro-book Aug 9–Fog because it looked/sounded so enticing.
(And, yep, this here zinester does dream of having some of *my* zines for sale at Lucky’s one of these days; but, even if I never fully pursue that, or am unsuccessful, it will remain the best place to browse for cool reads for as long as it exists.)
