Fun fact time. Linoleum was basically vinyl’s great grandparent. It came around in the 1860s when a British inventor named Frederick Walton noticed that linseed oil formed a rubbery skin when left out in the air. He mixed it with cork dust, wood flour, and natural pigments, pressed it onto a jute backing, and that’s how linoleum was born.

By the early 1900s, lino was everywhere in schools, hospitals, and homes. People loved it because it was easy to clean, quiet underfoot, and had that smooth matte look.

These days, it’s making a comeback for all the right reasons. It’s made from plants, not plastic, and gives off that perfect vintage meets modern vibe.
