It’s not just what I know, it’s who I know.

After more than 20 years in this industry (14+ of those in the Durham Region), I know who delivers and who doesn’t. I’ve built a trusted list of professionals I confidently bring into my clients’ homes. And the good news for you? They have to continue meeting my standards to stay on that list.

Naturally, after all these years, the list of people I ✨ don’t ✨ recommend is significantly longer than the one I do.

In an unregulated industry where anyone can call themselves a contractor and open shop tomorrow, strong referrals matter. When you’re investing in your home, your biggest asset, you want the right people on your team.

Some of the best design moments start with a challenge.

For example, a family that needs more storage but doesn't want the space to feel heavy. Or, a layout that has to function for busy mornings, homework at the island and weekend entertaining. Then there's the client who brings beautiful inspiration photos, but needs the room to truly work for how they live.

That's where creativity becomes more than just aesthetics. It's problem-solving and balancing form and function. It's finding thoughtful solutions that feel effortless once they're in place.

I genuinely enjoy that intersection, where creativity meets practicality and the result feels both beautiful and completely livable. I am deeply grateful that my passion allows me to express my creativity. Cheers to National Creativity Day.

Kitchen trends can be a little hit or miss for me. But matte cabinetry? That’s one I can absolutely get behind.

I love a soft matte finish because it gives a kitchen a warmer, softer and more elevated feel without all the glare and shine of high gloss finishes.

And from a practical standpoint, it just works.

Matte finishes tend to hide fingerprints, grease marks and everyday wear a whole lot better, which makes them a little more forgiving for busy, real-life kitchens.

Sometimes… you just need a good mocktail.

Something fresh. Something simple. Sparkling water with citrus and mint. Strawberry and basil. Cucumber with a squeeze of lime. When it's poured into the right glass and finished with a thoughtful garnish, it suddenly feels like an ✨ occasion ✨

It's funny how presentation changes the experience. A small detail, intentionally chosen, can elevate the everyday. The same is true in design. 😉

Swipe for a few of my simple, easy-on-the-ingredients go-to mocktails. Share with the friends you’ll be patio sipping with this summer, and save for later.

Or just… enjoy that glass of wine. After all, it is National Wine Day. 😉🍷

A client came in recently, convinced she wanted wood cabinets for her new kitchen.

When we started looking at her inspiration photos, every image was a soft neutral matte finish. I asked her, “Are you sure that’s not the look you actually love?”

It turned out she did love that look. What she didn’t love was the idea of chipping paint. A friend’s painted MDF kitchen was already showing wear after just a few years and she didn’t want to worry about longevity.

That’s when I introduced her to our Similacquer material. A soft matte finish in solid colours that delivers that beautiful, neutral look without the durability concerns. She was thrilled. The aesthetic she wanted, with the performance her kitchen deserves.

We work with engineered materials like this every day, so it’s easy to forget they’re not offered everywhere. But having access to options that combine beauty and longevity makes all the difference in how your kitchen looks and how it lives over time.

The quartz you love. The tile you saved. The hardware that caught your eye. The cabinet door that felt just right. Individually, each choice is beautiful. But kitchens are not experienced one piece at a time. They are experienced as a whole.

We often see projects where finishes were selected piece by piece. Each choice made sense in the moment... but together, they compete instead of complement. The space feels slightly off, even when nothing is technically wrong.

Those great, beautiful choices don't always belong together. You have to think about the bigger picture.

There’s a trend happening in kitchens right now that I’m just not sold on… lighting in the toe kick area.

I know it’s supposed to look high-end and dramatic, but all I can think is: why are we illuminating the floor?

Maybe it’s because I’m not the world’s greatest housekeeper, but I don’t need a spotlight on every crumb in the kitchen.

I’d rather keep the lighting where I actually want things to be seen and appreciated like the cabinetry, the materials, the details.

This is one of those moments where real life wins over trends for me.

Curious where everyone lands on this one.

Love it or leave it? Let me know in the comments.

Strong design isn’t about adding more. It’s about knowing what to leave out.

A kitchen should feel cohesive, intentional and complete — not busy. That clarity comes from thoughtful editing, where every material, finish and detail supports the bigger picture.

When you design with the whole picture in mind, the result feels intentional, calm, settled and purposeful. When you don’t, it just feels busy.
