TIPS AND TRICKS
Let’s Talk Wreath Care
1) I will always recommend that your wreath be placed in an area where it will not be exposed to the elements. However, if you were like me and forgot about my Santa on the door during that crazy snow storm on Christmas Eve, he was completely covered in snow where only his face was showing and in no time I shoo
k off the snow and he was just fine!
2)As a preventative measure, you can purchase Scotchgard Water and Sun Shield UV Protector (yellow can). It is sold in Canadian Tire, Home Depot, etc... It is mainly used on any fabric cushions you have outside during the summer, boat covers, canopies, etc. It needs to be sprayed on your wreath a few times throughout the summer as the SUN is our worst element. Ribbons and Mesh can withstand all the elements and they will air dry like nothing every happened to them. However, if your wreath is going to be in the sun the MESH will fade! Some colours do fade faster than others, so whether it’s full sun or partial sun, you need to protect your wreath.
3)When using the Scotchgard, do not spray your sign. I put a varathane sealant on all the signs to help with fading. When spraying your wreath, all you need to do is put a paper towel over the sign and then you can spray it. If it’s a flower with a painted centre, please cover that with a paper towel as well. Scotchgard is a great product, however if you have your wreath out in the hot sun day after day it will still fade.
4) I only use premium wired ribbons and mesh, however I have no control of the dyes or how much is in the meshes. As I mentioned, some colours fade faster than others.
5)When it’s time to switch out your wreath, make sure it is dry and then it can be stored with just a simple garbage bag over it and let it hang in an area in your basement that is out of the way. I actually got Steve to put a shower curtain rod over my laundry machines and that is where I store mine. Canadian Tire does sell wreath containers. One is a soft cover and the other is a hard cover.
6) When you bring out your next wreath, my promise to you is I ONLY ever use wired ribbon, therefore it’s just a matter of fluffing out your ribbons if they did get a bit squished being stored and then your wreath is ready to hang for another year! I work hard designing these wreaths and I want you to be able to enjoy these for as long as possible. Please remember if it's too hot outside for you, it's too hot for your wreath in the sun!🌞
