DESIGNING FROM THE PLAN UP

We were lucky to step into this project with a beautifully developed floor plan already in place by Ian at Dreams 2 Designs guidance from Adam at Bear Creek Carpentry and our absolutely lovely clients.

Before jumping into finishes, we spent some time looking at the plans through an interior design lens — making subtle adjustments to room proportions, cabinetry locations, openings and layouts to make sure the home would support everything we knew was coming later.

It’s one of our favourite parts of getting involved in a new build early: being able to think through how the home will actually live and function before walls start going up.

From there, we moved into the exterior — refining the overall direction and working through windows, doors, siding, stone, roofing and all of the details that bring the house together.

And now that the outside is taking shape, we’re heading inside to start the fun stuff.

Trust the process.

It can be hard to see the finished space when you’re standing in an unfinished basement surrounded by concrete, exposed framing and mechanical — but that’s kind of the magic of design.

Can you believe that just a few months ago, this bathroom didn’t exist?

Now it’s layered with warm wood, natural stone, brushed brass, soft tile and a cedar ceiling, with so many thoughtful little details tucked throughout.

Sometimes you really do just have to trust the process.

When this client told me their brief, I honestly thought it was a dream.

A colourful cottage that feels collected over decades. Layers of vintage finds, warm wood, playful patterns, nostalgic art, and spaces that make you want to slow down and stay a little longer. And specifically - not to feel like a boring airbnb, loved that.

These concept boards are where we get to explore all those ideas before we start making the real design decisions. It's messy, fun, and probably my favourite part of the entire process.

I genuinely believe your home—or your cottage—should make you happy. It should make you smile when you pull into the driveway, spark conversations, and feel like a reflection of the people who spend time there. Life's too short to play it safe with the places we love most.

We love designing cottages and vacation spaces for the same reason we love cottage life.

They're made to hold experiences, traditions, and the small moments in between.

The room where siblings become roommates again for a weekend.

Where friends stay up talking long after the lights are off.

Where early risers sneak out for coffee and the first look at the lake.

Where stories are shared, laughter carries down the hall, and memories are made without anyone realizing it at the time.

The best spaces aren't just beautiful.

They're part of the experience.

Each year this little firm continues to grow into exactly what I’ve always hoped it could become. Over the past year especially, quietly building behind the scenes — returning to school, expanding our knowledge, refining our process, and continuing to elevate what we offer our clients.

We truly have the best clients (like seriously the best clients you could ask for) and get to work alongside some of the best trades and local businesses in the area. Without all of you, I’d just be sitting here with a lot of samples, sketches, and ideas.

This week was full of site visits and sunsets.

I feel so blessed to be welcomed into many homes, in so many beautiful places. It's not lost on me how lucky I am to design in cottage country, with my favourite birds on site, water close by and the energy that this area brings. And to have amazing trusted build partners who bring me along to meet their clients and bring the vision to life, you guys are the best and I hope get a break over the next few days.
