We have shared over 18 years together, and today, 12 years married🤎

Thank you for doing this life with me, and for keeping me laughing along the way. Thank you for encouraging me to do hard things, for showing up for us every day, and showing me grace and love along the way. So many years have passed, with so many more to come.

Happy Anniversary my love 🤎🤎🥂

My husband: “You already have enough furniture.”

Me: “That’s a weird way to say I have room for one more piece.” 🤷‍♀️😂

I loved getting my hands on this one.

My client inherited this solid oak sideboard, and while it was in incredible condition, she wanted the finish to better reflect her own aesthetic. So we went dark. It had been refinished before, and after stripping it, several bondo repairs were showing. So I stained it twice, and followed that with a homemade toner along with my trusty blend-all sticks. 3 coats of polyurethane were sprayed to lock it all in and provide durability. My client provided the matte black k***s she loved, and it’s finally ready to go home and be loved again 🖤

I mean, would you just look at it 😍

What was once a wash stand has been transformed into the most perfect vanity. And the crew over at built the most stunning custom countertop!!

This piece was anything but easy. You know those stainless steel dental picks? I used one to assist in scraping the old shellac out of the grain after having chemically stripped it, not once but twice. The inset door had completely fallen out too so I had to re attach that, turn the top drawer into a false drawer, and build new feet for it to raise it up a bit for needed height. After it was stripped, sanded and cleaned I did 2 rounds of wood bleach that didn’t really do too much. So I whipped up a toner to reduce the red tones, followed by a taupe paint wash to bring back some ashy warm tones. Followed by 3 coats of polyurethane.

Once it was picked up, River City Tile installed it in their clients powder room and custom built that AMAZING integrated countertop.

I’m still swooning over this one 🤎

I haven’t been posting on here much. Still working, but truthfully, social media has felt so overwhelming to me lately. I truly don’t know how those who do it for a living, do it. Or maybe it’s just me as I haven’t been feeling super inspired or creative lately. I’m in a slump for sure. The world feels heavy, and it feels like my algorithms are only showing me heavy things so I’ve sort of muted my socials for a bit.

So today to help get me back into it, I’ve decided to share with y’all a project I was truly so thankful to be asked to help with!

•••••••

Several months back I was asked by Shar over at if I was interested in donating my skills to her Annual Mother’s Day Makeover Project. My response - immediately, yes!! If you’re not familiar with Shar or this incredibly thoughtful annual project of hers, please go check her out!

Jolene was this years chosen Mother after countless nominations. She tragically lost her husband and now finds herself raising her beautiful children without him.

was a sponsor, and Shar and I had a great time shopping and walked out with a hiboy dresser, 2 smaller nightstands (2 oak stools), and we lucked out by finding a floor lamp and mirror as well. I got to work on making these pieces beautiful for Jolene’s bedroom and I think it all fit so well with Shar’s vision for the space! Pro 📸-

What an absolute beauty 😍

This large Welsh pine cabinet might just be a favorite of mine! While it was always a beautiful piece, it needed some love and attention to bring it back to life.

While it may not look like much has changed, this pie safe needed a lot of love. The finish literally came off with tape. So after a good clean, I gave it a full sanding. One of the drawer corners was chipped off, so I rebuilt it - it’s as good as new now. The doors and sides are finished plywood and there was a lot of bubbling unfortunately, so I fixed it as much as it would let me. Once ready for stain, I went over it with 2 coats of dark walnut, 3 coats of a toner as it was pretty uneven, and finished it off with a few coats or polyurethane. The inside got a wood conditioning treatment, and I lined the drawers with a pretty wallpaper.

The goal here - make it look good, but make it look original!

This project is one fine example of that it’s always a good idea to have a Plan B. I was originally asked to strip it all down, and while I gave it my very best, the finish wouldn’t budge…like, at all. I tried 4 different chemical st*****rs, acetone, sanding, carbide scraper…..nothing worked, and I’m still stumped! So we eventually moved on to painting it.

The vision - mimic an old painted antique, making it look weathered and worn.

After giving it a vigorous sanding, I used a clear shellac primer so that the paint had better adhesion to the substrate. I hand painted it all and rubbed back some areas where it might have naturally distressed over time, as it gives it more of a ‘it’s looked this way for decades’ appearance. My client didn’t want a matte sheen, so we went with a satin topcoat. All original hardware was re-used.

So now I must know, did I pull it off?

*AI was used as this cabinet is so dang tall, it towered higher than my staging wall!

Still over here waiting on specific measurements needed to build this old wash stand up in height, but it’s come a long way so far since it was dropped off. This client will be using it as a bathroom vanity in a new build, and a Calcutta marble integrated countertop and sink will be installed on site. I’m so excited to see how this project turns out!
