Sarahndipity Designs is about so much more than making earrings. It is about finding beauty and possibility in materials that might otherwise be overlooked, and giving them an entirely new story. 🐴💜
Every pair begins with genuine new saddle-leather off-cuts left behind during the creation of Sensation Ride saddles based out of Okotoks, Alberta. These pieces may be too small, have blemishes, colour issues or any number of other reasons they cannot become part of another saddle, but they are far too beautiful and full of character to be thrown away.
Instead, I carefully choose, cut and transform them into lightweight, one-of-a-kind earrings and other leather creations. Their original colours, textures and markings help guide each design, meaning no two creations are ever quite the same.
The repurposing often continues beyond the leather. Whenever possible, I incorporate beads, stones, charms and other treasures recovered from thrifted or gifted jewelry. Pieces that may have been forgotten in the bottom of a jewelry box are taken apart, thoughtfully matched and given a completely new life.
What might once have been discarded becomes a one-of-a-kind statement piece. Beautiful, lightweight and full of personality, ready to catch someone’s eye and become part of their own story.
This work has also given something back to me.
Living with my newer health challenges has changed how I am able to work, but it has never taken away my need to create or contribute. Sarahndipity Designs has given me an opportunity to work from home, create at a pace my body allows and continue making beautiful things that bring people joy.
Every pair I finish reminds me that something doesn’t lose its value simply because its original purpose has changed. Sometimes it is only waiting for someone to see what else it can become, and I think there is something especially meaningful in that.
