Behind the Grain: Meet Your Maker
A Life of Service, A Second Act in Sawdust
My name is Andy Wilson, and my journey to this workshop was anything but a straight line.
After 25 years of service with the RCMP, I retired from the force with a deep appreciation for the things in life that are steady, reliable, and built to last. I traded my uniform for an apron, but the discipline and attention to detail I practiced for two and a half decades never left me.
Maritime Roots & Self-Taught Passion
I grew up in the Maritimes, where the woods and the water aren't just scenery—they’re a way of life. That upbringing gave me an absolute passion for the natural beauty of wood.
I am a self-taught woodworker. Everything I know, I learned through trial, error, and a relentless curiosity for what lies beneath the bark. I don't look for "perfect", straight grained lumber; I look for the knots, the burls, and the live edges—the parts of the tree that tell a story of resilience.
Why I Create
When I’m in my shop, time slows down. My goal isn't to mass-produce; it’s to take a piece of rough woodd and turn it into a functional heirloom that will add beauty, and a story, to your home.
Every piece I send out of my shop carries a part of my story, and I’m honored that it’s now becoming a part of yours.
