Here's a new Petals2Metal print. This one is titled - Sweet Cyclamen.

A favourite flower of mine especially in the middle of winter. Their upswept, twisted petals remind me of a headdress of some sort. This flowering plant, indoors or out, brings much needed colour to the dreariness of winter but I still have some blooming on my deck today in bright pinks and reds. Most likely in a few weeks, I'll plant them beneath a tree in the backyard and let them have their way.

I've created this image with my Velvet 56 Lensbaby lens. All of my Petal2Metal images are in the square, dreamy, leaning towards the ethereal.

Wondering about the metal part? Each print is produced on aluminum with a high gloss finish without glass or a frame.

I suppose every photographer wants to eventually paint something.

I've been noticing these little flowers this spring. They're probably considered a w**d and maybe invasive or some such thing, but I find them charming and adorable. So I decided to give it a try with the paint brush. Here's my first watercolour painting of Red Dead-nettle - which are apparently edible - good in your salad.

Another image created with my Nikon and the Lensbaby Velvet56 lens. Great combo.

Happy photography and happy painting.

The Chocolate Lily is just about gone for another year .... still I wanted to share a recent image taken during peak season at Piper's Lagoon on Vancouver Island.

It's the tiniest little flower and widely overlooked - or I should say hard to find. It blooms during the time of the fawn lily who typically gets all the oohs and aahs! So for us botanical hunters, finding one of these gems is a special blessing.

Still loving my velvet lens 56.

I'm happy to share another Garry Oak and Arbutus grove image.

I love sharing nature images of beauty and here on Vancouver Island the winter fog adds that atmospheric element which pumps up the beauty. Cool dreamy colours are so lovely in this image. Do you like the pop of orange from the Arbutus trunks?

Still playing with my Velvet56 lens and loving its effects.

Another winter light image; this one I've named Red Alder Grove.

In this image everything seems to curve in unison. In one of my workshops, the "c" curve was highlighted and this image follows that teaching. It might have been a Tony Sweet workshop where I learned that one!

And the muted winter colours really calm my soul - not only when I explore but also when I'm back at the computer reviewing, tucked inside with the winter blustering around.

Using my Lensbaby Velvet 56 for this image too and absolutely loving the painterly effect of that lens.

Another special tree on Vancouver Island - the Arbutus tree. Definitely an interesting to photograph and this one looks like its had quite a life so far. A little bit gnarly but beautiful, nevertheless, sitting on top of a rocky cliff over looking the Salish Sea.

Using my Velvet 56 again. I love this lens. I love the mystery, mystic and magic of the landscape and the sea it brings out.

Here's that pretty bloom from my fishbone cactus, aka zigzag cactus, that's sat dormant for years and now this

I'm loving this velvet lens when it comes to unusual botanicals - pure magical, mystery and dreamy romance

day 31 of "56 days of velvet" photography project I'm working on

I'm exploring with my Lensbaby Velvet 56 lens for 56 days and sharing what I create with you

so this little fishbone cactus decided to bloom this fall after sitting in our bathroom window for 5 years. What made her decide to bloom this year? I'm so curious and, well, again, one of those mysteries of God and His Creation.

All I know is that I feel completely blessed that she's given us three beautiful but unusual flowers. You'll be seeing more of these blooms in the next few days. Never seen anything like it.

day 30 of 56 days of velvet images

once again I couldn't resist photographing my favourite tree on Vancouver Island - the beautiful Garry Oak tree

I love the velvety effect this lens affords - a retro film look; would you agree?

I hope you enjoy the play of shadow and light, the muted colours of a fall day and the white-cloud sky which is one big glorious light box from Heaven

day 29 of 56 days of velvet So thrilled I came across this very young Arbutus tree. I don't know how these trees grow in such rocky places and with such little soil. Whereas in my garden it's a challenge to grow stuff in this rocky Island soil. One of the mysteries of God and His Creation. Glorious.
