This little book began with a simple idea: helping children discover Trinidad & Tobago through the things that make the islands feel like home.

🌿 LOWER THE VOLUME | The quiet ride home

Friday pickup can come after a very full week.

Our first instinct might be to ask:

“How was your day?”
“What did you do?”
“Did you eat your lunch?”
“Who did you play with?”

But after hours of listening, learning, playing and navigating a busy environment, some little ones may need something else first.

**Quiet.**

Try letting the ride home become part of their after-school decompression.

Turn the music down.
Let the questions wait.
Allow them to look out the window.
Let a favourite toy come along for the ride.

You don't have to fill the silence.

Sometimes co-regulation is simply creating less for their nervous system to process.

The stories can come later. 🤍

Sometimes our first instinct when our child is upset is to make the feeling go away.

We explain. We reassure. We distract. We search for the right words.

But not every big feeling needs to be fixed.

Sometimes co-regulation looks much quieter than that.

Sitting nearby.

Using fewer words.

Allowing the tears or frustration to exist without rushing them away.

And letting our little one know:

🤍 **“You can have this feeling. I’m staying right here.”**

We can hold a boundary and still make room for the feeling that comes with it.

Our calm presence doesn't erase the emotion. It reminds our children that they don't have to move through it alone.

I read this recently and felt it in my core:

“In the end, the greatest work of your entire life will be your children. Everything else is just stuff.”

Because in the end, so much of what we spend our lives building is just that… stuff.

But what we pour into our children travels with them.

The safety. The love. The way we showed up. The feeling of home.

Perhaps that is legacy.

Not simply what we leave for them, but what we leave within them. 🤍

Sometimes the most meaningful moments are the quiet ones. 📚❤️

This morning at daycare, I caught a little reader completely absorbed in *My Trinidad & Tobago Journey*.

No posing. No prompting. Just a child turning the pages, exploring the pictures, and discovering a little piece of Trinidad & Tobago through food, music, festivals, traditions and island life. 🇹🇹

Before repeating the instruction, try connection first.

Come a little closer.
Lower your voice.
Use fewer words.
Help them feel steady.

Then try the instruction again.

Connection doesn't mean there are no boundaries. It means we're helping little nervous systems get ready to receive them.

A small shift to carry into the week. 🤍
