Nothing says sweater weather better than a plaid print on a plush toss pillow or wool throw. It’s a classic pattern that can have either a more traditional or modern feel to it, depending on the colourway and how busy the pattern is. It’s also an easy and inexpensive way to cozy up your home for the fall season. 🍁

💡Design Tip: If you’re purchasing new pillow covers, make sure your insert is 2 inches larger. For example, if you have an 18x18 pillow cover, you’ll want to use a 20x20 insert. This will ensure your pillow looks full and luxurious.

I love the impact that a bold wallpaper can have on a small space, like the powder room in this photo. My client was looking for something dramatic but fun for their young family, and as soon as I saw this pattern, I felt confident it was the right choice.

In addition to sourcing the wallpaper for their space, during their consultation, I provided guidance on the best mirror and lighting style, as well as the vanity colour. In just one consultation, they had all of the information they needed to complete the project.

Not only does the new space look pretty but strikes a happy balance of being bold and fun. Swipe left ⬅️ to see the before.

Design Tip: Don’t be afraid to go dark in a powder room. You don’t spend a lot of time there, so you can go for something dramatic!

Moody Monday 🍂

Warm colours have been trending for quite some time now and, I can safely say, are here to stay for the foreseeable future.

Deep plum-browns, earthy greens and rainy blues combined with a touch of brass look so rich and elegant for this fall season. While I still love a cool colour palette, there is something about the depth of these colours that is so luxurious.

If you’re looking to do something bold in your home but want to do it on a budget, consider painting. By simply wrapping an entire room in a dark hue and adding in a few new accessories, you’ll have achieved major drama without the hassle of a renovation!

Expert Tip: For walls, dark colours look best when painted in a matte finish. The richness and intensity of the colour look beautiful in this sheen.

Paint colours featured in this photo by are Raphael CC-2, Deep River 1582, Wenge AF-180 and Night Train CC-720.

Once Labour Day hits, I’m ready for fall. Chunky knit sweaters, pumpkin spice everything and cozy nights on the couch reading a good book are just a few of my favourite things to do when the weather gets cooler.

With the change of seasons, it’s also a great time to refresh your home with new decor. Moodier colours and vintage-inspired items continue to be everywhere, and both of these things suit the fall season perfectly!

Here’s a quick checklist of what you can do to refresh your space for fall. Choose one or all of these ideas and don’t forget to shop your home!

🍂Embrace a moody colour palette. Sage green, rust, dusty blue and burnt orange are popular colours for this season.

🍂 Replace linen or cotton pillows and throws with velvet and wool fabrics.

🍂 Swap out a rug with one that has a checkered pattern. It’s a classic and timeless addition to any space.

🍂 Create instant ambiance with candles and lamps. Cone shaped lamp shades are very on-trend with extra points for ones that are pleated.

🍂 Incorporate vintage looking artwork. It pairs beautifully when juxtaposed with something modern.

🍂 Use dried botanicals in uniquely shaped vases to add colour and life to your space.

A to this lovely kitchen that I styled using all of the homeowners items. I love the simplicity of this vignette, which combines all of my favourite elements - wood, greenery and artwork. Sometimes less is more, don’t you think?

💡Tip Tuesday💡

Kitchens are the heart of the home. It’s where meals for loved ones are created, old family recipes are taught to the next generation and special occasions are celebrated. I can’t tell you how often get-togethers with friends and family have started and ended in my kitchen.

Making this space feel warm though has its challenges because of its hard finishes. A lot of the recent kitchen trends are designed to turn this utilitarian space into something more inviting. Open shelving for displaying decorative items, warm wood-toned cabinetry and islands that look like furniture are just a few examples.

If your kitchen doesn’t have these elements, don’t worry! Keep reading for my 6 kitchen styling essentials to make your space feel even more welcoming.

✅ Display Pretty Dishware - If you’ve collected pretty dishware from your travels, don’t hide it in your cupboards. Display a piece that brings back great memories and can be used practically. If you have more than one piece you love, rotate it every month or season.

✅ Go Green – There’s nothing better than cooking with fresh herbs. Plant the ones you use most often in terracotta pots. Herbs like basil, mint and rosemary not only look pretty but smell great too!

✅ Frame Family Recipes – If you’re lucky enough to have a well-loved, handwritten recipe that’s been passed down from generation to generation, frame it and display it. It will also serve as a great conversation piece.

✅ Incorporate Wood Accents – Cutting boards and wood bowls are perfect for adding instant warmth to your kitchen.

✅ Use Textiles – Adding a patterned rug to your kitchen is a great way to tie in adjacent colour palettes from your home and add instant comfort. Be sure to look for something that is stain-resistant.

✅ Display Cookbooks – Keep a few of your favourite cookbooks out for easy reference, and if you find the covers too busy, simply remove them.

Happy styling! 🏡

✨ Monday Mood ✨

Can anyone relate to that one space in your house that causes you to walk in and out with your eyes closed. 🙋‍♀️ For us, it was our mudroom. We often kept the door closed so we wouldn’t be reminded of what lied behind it. It was gloomy, dark and disorganized. 🙈

Needless to say, it needed an update and spring felt like the perfect time to take on this weekend project.

Seeing that it gets a lot of use each and every day, I wanted this space to feel airy and fresh - one I’d be happy to spend time in.

A full reveal is coming soon, but for now, here’s the moodboard I created for this space - an essential element of any decorating project.

✨ Testimonial Tuesday ✨

I recently worked with a client to choose new colours for a space that their mother was moving into. As the consultation went on, it included decorating dilemmas my client wasn’t quite sure how to address. At the end of the consult, they had a detailed document with a cohesive colour palette and a decorating roadmap on what to do next.

Choosing a colour and deciding on decor can be overwhelming as there are so many options. My job is to take the stress away and ensure that the colours I specify complement the furnishings and fixtures, and that the decor options tie in with my client’s style.

If you’re stuck and not sure which colour to choose or need advice on how best to pull a space together, I’d love to help.

Transformation Tuesday 🏠

Oftentimes, just a few decor items can completely transform the way a space looks and feels. For this bedroom, I borrowed the rug from another room to add warmth, added pillows, artwork, greenery and an oversized mirror to complete the finished look. It’s light and fresh - perfect for this time of year with spring officially here!
