This seller on Ali Express is even using a photo of me to advertise their counterfeit bandweaving kit. I have had 232 listings for these removed so far from Amazon.ca, Amazon.com, Amazon.co.uk. Amazon.com.au, Walmart.ca, Walmart.com and Temu and I’m now embarking on Alibaba and its associated marketplaces - AliExpress, Alibaba, Lazada and Moravia. Then there is eBay in various countries and Ozon in Russia. I consulted with a law firm here in Ottawa that does nothing but intellectual property law and I would have to spend thousands and thousands of dollars for their services to check and get listings taken down. A company that does automatic detection and reporting of copied IP also declined to work with me because my business is too small.
I’d love to hear from other artists and makers about your stories of intellectual property theft.

I have bought myself a backstrap weaving kit from eBay that is an unauthorized copy of mine, advertised using some of my photos. I want to see how dreadful it is in person and if they have gotten hold of my instruction book as well. I will leave them a dreadful review and then file an intellectual property violation complaint.

Bad copies of my mini bandweaving heddles are showing up everywhere using my photos taken from Etsy to market them. They are on Temu, AliExpress, Amazon, Walmart and markets in Bangladesh, Russia and the Philippines. Those are the ones I’ve spotted so far. I’m playing whack-a-mole reporting them and getting them taken down.

Meanwhile someone complained to me on Etsy that these heddles are cheaper on Amazon and I’m ripping people off.

Two new support spindles finished today. The red, orange and yellow one is Spectraply for the whorl with a Roasted Maple shaft. 11 1/4” or 28.5 cm long. Weight .85 oz, 24 g. The second one has an African Blackwood whorl on a Canarywood shaft. It’s 11 7/8” or 30 cm long and weighs .95 oz, 27 g. This spindle spins fast because of the small but heavy whorl.

My bandweaving kits have been copied by numerous Chinese companies. I found 9 different listings for them on Temu, using my photos, my photos altered with AI and photos of their terrible copies of my heddles. I’m really hoping they haven’t gotten hold of my instruction book as well. I also found copies of my heddles on Ali Express. I put in a copyright infringement report to Temu but to do that for something on Ali Express you have to upload official ID which I’m not prepared to do. Anyway, if you’d like a real bandweaving kit there are in my Etsy shop. Link is in my bio.

I brought a catnip plant in from the garden for the winter and when I picked a leaf for the cat I found this handsome fellow on it. I put him back on the plant and now he’s weaving himself a cocoon or something.
