What if a little piece of the forest could become a child’s bedroom?
Inspired by a tiny mushroom I found in the woods, I imagined a cozy little world where nature becomes part of the room, earthy textures, soft greens, warm wood and a touch of woodland magic.
Nature has a funny way of inspiring the spaces we create.

Kindly note: All the nature photographs I use as inspiration for my spaces are photographs taken by me or by my twin sons.

Have you ever looked at a beautiful moment in nature and thought, “I wish I could bring this feeling home”?

This nursery started with one little forest photograph, the moss, the warm golden tones, the greens, and that magical feeling of being surrounded by trees.

I imagined what it would feel like to turn those colours and textures into a little world for a baby to grow, dream and explore.

Because nature doesn’t just inspire our homes… it can inspire how our homes make us feel.

Would you create a room inspired by a place in nature that you love?

Have you ever thought about turning one of your beautiful nature photographs into a space in your own home?

That’s exactly where this bedroom started, inspired by the soft purples of a lavender field, then translated into colour, texture, light and little details that make the room feel like a peaceful escape.

Because sometimes, the best interior inspiration is already waiting for us outside our windows. 🌸

What piece of nature would you bring into your home?

I’ve always wondered while wandering through nature… could the beautiful color schemes we see in nature be directly translated into an interior space?

So I decided to try it.

This little reading nook started with a sweet photograph taken by my teenage son. 📸💚
I took the colors, mood, and feeling from that tiny moment in nature and translated them into a cozy little reading corner.

And yes… the video was created with a little help from AI.

I love seeing how a simple nature photograph can inspire an entire interior , from the wall color and textiles to the rug, furniture and little details.

Check out the suggested colors and products in our blog post ( link in the first comment) if you’d like to recreate this cozy nature-inspired nook in your own home.

Maybe nature really is the best interior designer. 😉

Who else loves the smell of a home-cooked South Asian meal?

No matter where we live, there's something comforting about cooking the food we grew up with. Whether it's a spicy curry, a fresh sambol, or a flavorful rice dish, it just feels like home. ❤️

But if you live in a colder country like Canada, you probably know the struggle. During the long winter months, our windows stay closed most of the time, and even with a mechanical ventilation system, cooking smells can linger for hours.

From my own experience, I've also noticed that when visiting some South Asian, Indian, or African homes, you can sometimes smell the cooking the moment you open the front door. It got me thinking about simple, natural ways to keep our homes smelling fresh without giving up the foods we love.

That's exactly why I decided to write this blog post. It's based on the tips that have worked in my own home, and I hope you'll find them helpful too.

🌿 **How to Remove Curry Smell from Your House: 8 Simple Tips That Actually Work**

I'd love to know if you have any tried-and-true tricks of your own!

What My Architect Eyes See #1

Choosing curtains may seem simple, but it’s one of those decisions that can completely transform the look and feel of a home. 🙂

As an Architect and Interior Designer, my eyes and brain automatically go into analysis mode wherever I go 😄. Whether it’s a home, hotel, Airbnb, or office, I can’t help but think, “What curtains would work better here?”, “A different colour palette would elevate this space,” or “These should have been hung a little higher.”

Don’t worry 😄, all those thoughts stay safely inside my head!

One thing I’ve noticed is that many people choose curtains without considering fabric, colour, texture, natural light, or even the local climate. But those little details are what truly change the mood and character of a room.

Have you ever struggled to choose the right curtains for your home? 😊
read it here;

One of the most common mistakes I notice homeowners make is with curtains. Beautiful furniture and paint colors can instantly lose their impact when window treatments are the wrong size, length, material, or colour.

Choosing curtains isn't just about looks - it's about comfort, climate, and creating the feeling you want in your home.

❄️ Cold weather? Think warmth and insulation.

☀️ Warm weather? Think light, airflow, and breezy fabrics.

Do I miss designing homes in Sri Lanka with large windows, courtyards, verandahs, and spaces that seamlessly flow into nature?

Yes, I still do. ❤️🌿

Living and designing in Canada has taught me to appreciate a different kind of beauty, homes that are warm, cozy, and carefully designed to withstand long, harsh winters. Every wall, window, and detail has to work hard to retain heat and stand the test of time.

But there are moments when I still miss the openness of tropical homes, where sunlight, breezes, and gardens become part of everyday living.

Having had the privilege of designing and living in both climates, I wrote a new blog post reflecting on the differences, and the surprising similarities, between designing homes in Canada and Sri Lanka.

Because no matter where we live, good design always starts with understanding how we want to live.

Do I miss it? Yes, I do. But I also appreciate the beauty and challenges of designing for both worlds.
