Sharing a personal space today to show how we choose to incorporate vintage (and second-hand) in our real life family home. We currently have a circa 1940s handmade traditional French Canadian catalogue bedspread and 1970s outsider mosaic artwork (honourable mention to our ‘new’ lamps which were a second hand $15 estate score and are amazing quality)

Big chocolatey industrial pendant light! This Lyskaer Denmark designed light was made in Canada in the 1970s. It is meant to hang and comes with a long cord but could also easily be rewired to make it a hardwired pendant light if that works better in your space. Big, bold and brown. Could work in so many spaces!

I’m such a sucker for bentwood anything but especially Thonet style bistro seating. I have 4 natural beech dining chairs and these black bar stools would definitely find a new home in my house if only I had anywhere to put barstools to use! These two lovely black Thonet style barstools are unlabeled, but are very old versions. Two beautiful ‘new’ pieces of Riihimäki glass have just hit the shop, both designed circa
1971 by the prolific and talented Tamara Aladin. Aladin was hired by Riihimäki with no
previous glass experience and her contract allowed her to only work on what she
wanted. Apparently what she wanted was to design a veritable avalanche of gorgeous
and colourful glass in the 60’s and 70’s, mostly vases and candlesticks but the odd
drinkware piece too.

Wool blanket care tips!
We sell quite a lot of vintage wool blankets at Revival Wares (‘cause my family and I just love them) and I have had a lot of questions about how to properly care for them so I thought that I would share some tips.

1. Dry cleaning is often recommended but please don’t dry clean your wool blankets. Not only is dry cleaning pretty toxic but it’s too harsh on the finish resulting in fuzziness and pilling on your blankets.
2. Wash wool blankets less often than your other textiles. Wool is naturally stain and soil resistant due to the nature of the structure of wool fibre (which is pretty amazing!)
3. Choose a gentle wool friendly detergent that keeps wool’s protective lanolin intact (examples are Woolite and Eucalan but there are others. You can even make your own from ivy and ground ivy!)
4. Machine wash on a gentle cycle in cold or cool water. You can hand wash wool but with a blanket that’s pretty heroic.
5. Let dry naturally as flat as possible (outdoors if you can or indoors to add some slow release moisture to your winter air. Also, contrary to common information you absolutely CAN dry in a dryer, just use the no heat setting!

I can never believe when I find amazing vintage that is brand new. How do you keep something so good as this golden yellow wool blanket tucked away in storage without ever enjoying it!? Even if I don’t have the delayed gratification capacity of these folks, I love that some people do. Ayers Canada wool blanket with classic satin trim circa early 1980s. 72” x 90” size is usable on both twin and full sized beds or a great size as an ample sofa throw. $120.

A new recycled vintage pillow collection just dropped at Revival Wares! Small lumbar, large lumbar, 20” square sizes carefully locally crafted from beautiful vintage textiles from the 1950s-1970s (in this case wool blankets and cotton chenille bedspread). What’s more Canadian than a genuine beaver fur coat? Well…probably a lot of things but this locally made bespoke vintage fur might at least make a shortlist. Gorgeous design featuring shaved cuffs and teardrop insets (that feels like the most luxurious teddy bear fur ever) highlight the natural beaver fur of most of this very warm and very glamourous coat. Mid-thigh length and a collar that can be turned up to block out any pesky polar vortices. Vintage circa 1980s. No tag as this was a custom made to order piece but fits like a women’s approximate XL (chest measure 42”). No condition issues of any kind. $475, shipping included.
