Designing healthcare spaces (including dental offices for my dental clients) needs to address many requirements: client needs/ wants, building code, building envelope, life and safety and accessibility. As a designer, we can also help to alleviate stress and build resilience by design that addresses physical, cognitive, social and emotional well-being. Steelcase Health asked seven of their healthcare experts to immerse in the Healthcare Design Conference + Expo and summarize their key takeaways. Have a read!

How's your memory? "Although we tend to believe that we can and should remember anything we want, the reality is we are designed to forget", says author Charan Ranganath who wrote the book Why We Remember. " Because our lives are full of incoming sensory information and our reactions to it, the laying down of a memory needs to be a competitive process, with priority given to more important, novel, or salient experiences at the expense of others. That’s why we might forget about our lunch date in the midst of a pressing work deadline." Learn how memory works in this Greater Good Magazine article.

It's that time of year again when Pantone exposes the Colour of the Year. For 2024, it's Peach Fuzz! To me, this colour screams connection, like a warm nurturing hug with your closest loved one. I can see this colour being used for closed intimate areas (such as dental operatories, lavatories, and kitchenettes), as well as, used as an accessory accent in larger public areas such as waiting areas and collaboration zones. Where would you use this colour in your office space?

One of the reasons why our New Year's resolutions are broken is because we make these resolutions with good intentions but leave it at that. Learn how in this short Greater Good Magazine article.
What will be your "implementation intentions" for 2024?

The most effective way to change your behavior for the better is to work in tandem with your unconscious mind.
