And just like that… summer is over.

The backpacks are packed, the school supplies are labelled (ish) and we’re officially heading into another school year!

Wishing all of our JBM families a HUGE good luck as you head back to school! Whether you have a brand-new kindergartener, a busy elementary-schooler, or a kid counting down the days until highschool graduation… we hope this year is a good one.

Good luck, teachers!

Happy Back to School, friends!

I am still down, healing from yesterdays procedure, so enjoy this old video 👌

🎀A little update for my Jellybean’s friends 🎀

On September 1st, I will be having a medical procedure and I’m not entirely sure what my timeline will look like for getting back to work afterward. Thankfully, my kids will be home and are willing to help me keep things moving, but please bear with us and have a little patience while I recover.

All website orders that are local pickups will be finished and ready for pickup this weekend (sorry Etsy friends, this one doesn’t apply to you- you’re still on track for the timeline provided). Keep an eye on your emails, pickup notifications will be coming soon!

And if you’re waiting on a design mockup, don’t worry! The procedure isn’t on my hands, so I can still design away. In fact… now is going to be the perfect time to get those designs done!

I haven’t had much time to take photos lately, so enjoy a little compilation of some of the hand-painted goodies from the last year! 🎨

Christmas is coming, and that Christmas rush from last year honestly still hasn’t seemed to slow down. 😂 If you’re planning to order for Christmas, I’d recommend getting your orders in around late September to mid-October for quicker processing.

**Just a heads up** I’ll be taking some time off the beginning of September for a medical procedure, so that may affect processing times a little. Expected slower response times sept 1st-7th (ish).

Effective immediately:

The only item we will continue shipping to the US is our growth charts. Want to see why?

This client paid $33.15 CAD for a 4” x 4” x 1” Dimes From Heaven piggy bank. After fees, I lost about $4 before even factoring in my time, materials, packaging or the cost of shipping it.

I should have shipped this before the tariffs took effect. It was supposed to go out last week, but if I’m being completely honest, I’m running ragged. I missed it before the cut off.

And that one missed shipment is now costing me money.

This isn’t a post looking for sympathy. I’m sharing this because I don’t think people realize just how damaging these tariffs can be for small businesses.

I’m not a large company with warehouses, huge profit margins and an entire department dedicated to handling customs and tariff changes. I’m a small business. I make these items, package them, answer messages, design, order supplies, handle customer service and then somehow try to keep up with all of the constantly changing rules around shipping across the border.

The United States is where approximately 80% of my orders come from. I have shipped all over Canada and the US, and for years, shipping to the US has been a huge part of keeping my business going.

Now I have to look at each item and decide whether I can realistically continue selling it to my American customers without either losing money or raising my prices so much that nobody wants to buy it.

For this particular $33 item, the answer is no.

I simply cannot absorb these costs on smaller products. And I know I’m not the only small business in this position.

So, effective immediately, our growth charts will be the only item we continue shipping to the United States. They are one of the few products we sell where the value of the item and the profit margin make the additional costs somewhat manageable.

This is the reality of what these changes are doing to small businesses like mine. It may look like “just another tariff” on paper, but for a small business, it can mean losing an entire market overnight.

And honestly, we should all be terrified.

Did you know… we ship our growth charts all over Canada and the US? 🇨🇦🇺🇸

We average 32 growth chart shipments a week, and approximately 80% of them head across the border to the US!

At this point, I’m basically a regular at our parcel drop-off spot 😂

We’re also slowly adding our growth charts back to the website after our little revamp (in case you hadn’t noticed), so keep checking back as more designs make their return!

Also, I had a glitch when trying to add music to this, and apparently I can’t change the song. 😂 That’s okay though, because some of you are aware that August is my birthday month. I don’t do just one day over here. 👌

This morning our new (and bigger!) machine was delivered to the shop. What a way to celebrate a birthday!

New team. New Jersey. We’re ready for the season to start! (Colour will be adjusted to match after- the colour was just difficult for me to work with)
