Dear Vendors/All,
I wanted to make this post after attending my second market. I was thinking so long the other day about how grateful I am to have started my small business. But even more, how much I have learned over the past few months. A small business can be 1) expensive 2) time consuming 3) so fulfilling. Every single person that I met this weekend has so much passion for what they do and the fact that they have the ability to share it with the Edmonton community is so amazing.
From talking to everyone at the market, I was able to connect on so many levels with people; the small business community is vast and special and everyone has a story. I didn’t start crafting up candles just to make money or get big or anything like that. I needed a new hobby. Something I didn’t realize about this all was how supportive other businesses are - we all support each other! I have been given valuable advice and tips and I couldn’t be more grateful.
As an example, our candle community is pretty Saturated, but you get to see everyone’s twist on things!! You get to see the beautiful designs of memory-invoking designs, or the attention to detail on or even the elegancy of candles! There is quite literally something for every occasion!!
You get to see the hard work of the artists, crafters, and everything in between. I’m telling ya, it was truly diving into my small business before I started to appreciate the AMOUNT of DETAIL and TIME put into these projects.
I learned the stories of my neighbours around me and people like who does every bit of research into their products than you could believe, or who has been designing since her teen years. Who would have thought that a teacher would have such beautiful designs like .and.daffodils or .studios who literally thrifts every single piece to create into a ring.
You guys!! I can’t even put into words!! I’m flabbergasted…
And on that note: the amazing people who NOT ONLY take their time to create a small business BUT ALSO to make a market that hundreds to thousands of people attend.
Thank you. -Alyssa
