PLEASE NOTE:
Change of venue for this event! Thessalon First Nation is about 10 minutes from Thessalon, (turn off Hwy. 17 at Maple Ridge Rd. and travel about 3 km.)

Due to overwhelming popularity of this crop, I may look at the possibility of relocating it. Instead of Little Rapids Community Hall, it might be at Thessalon First Nation Hall. Does anyone see this as a problem for them? I try to avoid highways as much as possible in January but we just need a bigger space! Thessalon First Nation is about a 13 km. drive from Thessalon but it's a nice big hall with ground floor access (no steps!). It will depend on availability but I'll look into it and confirm. This would also allow for a few more spots for scrapbookers.

On our last evening at Scrap Camp, I'd put "Talent Night" on the agenda, telling the ladies to come prepared to share something; a project, a technique, or a song or dance if they wanted.

By the time evening came, we'd had a late dinner and were settling in to scrapbooking when someone asked if the "Talent Night" was happening. I did a bit of an ask, and my reading of the room was that no one cared, so I said, "Well, we can just forget it..."

But we had a little girl there, around 5 years old, who'd had to come sit with her Nanny for a bit and her Nanny had kept her busy doing some tiny scrapbook projects. So the little girl immediately wanted to share what she'd done.

So we told her go ahead and she shared her little projects in the sweetest way. Of course, we all clapped.

Then her Nanny went. Shared some projects she was doing, and her gratefulness at being at the crop...and then the next person went and told about her project, a journal, and what it meant to her...and on and on we went around the room. Everyone had a little story to tell about their work or scrapbooking or about the memories that surfaced for them as they worked on a project.

Some of the stories were touching. Some were revelations to us. And sometimes we got ideas for our own works -- or future works.

And after, everyone agreed, it was one of the most touching points of the week. And we'd do it again.

It really was a great way to share.

We often stop to look at a page someone is working on or ask how a technique is done and then we move on. We don't always get to hear the whole story or the whys behind a project.

Sometimes we forget that's one of the main reasons we're there; because we know everyone at a crop "gets it". And that's a beautiful way to spend a day or a week.

Next time you're at a crop, take a few minutes to share what you're all doing. Ask questions as each person shares. Clap. Laugh. Get teary.

And feel the joy scrapbooking brings.
