Studio TK Fibre Art created with sustainable materials and ancient techniques. About Your Twined Textile

All twined textiles are made from 100% reclaimed fabrics.

The fabrics are laundered and torn into strips for the warp and the weft. The edges are left frayed for a timeworn look. The occasional ā€˜tuft’ of fabric is inherent to the technique I use to join the strips of fabric and when weaving in the ends on the back of your textile. The ā€˜tufts’ or frayed edges will not effect the integrity of your textile. All twined textiles are machine washable on gentle cycle with cold water. Do not put your textiles in the dryer! Different fabrics react differently to heat. The dryer or hot water might continue to shrink certain fabrics, leaving you with a very distorted twined textile. Instead lay them flat to air dry. Larger items can be hung on the line. Nonslip liners are recommended for under twined rugs. Price List for Twined Textiles (updated 5-30-2022)

Due to our dry climate, I preserve all Pine Needle Baskets with beeswax. I recommend that your basket isn’t placed near a heat source or direct sunlight, as beeswax has a low melting point and may damage your basket and/or your display surface. All baskets Pine Needle, Baskets From Mother Earth, Raffia and Fabric should not be used directly with food. If you wish to use your basket at the table, I suggest lining it with a napkin to protect it from soiling. A light dusting with the soft brush attachment on a vacuum cleaner, is all your basket needs to look it’s best.

She stitched these colours into her life
and left them behind with me—
a little of her hands,
a little of her heart,
always with me.

I just came across this little flag book and realized I completely forgot to share it with you!

Created as part of the Unbound course that I’ve slowly been taking with Take Two, it features scraps of fabric my grandma had made dresses for herself with. She loved colour and stitching these little pieces together, brought back so many happy memories.

A little book filled with colour, love and recollections. ā¤ļø

What a lovely day I had yesterday in Lacombe, with the Lacombe Art Guild!

I had such a wonderful time sharing my love of pine needle basketry with this great group of makers. Thank you so much to everyone that joined me and to Savannah and the Lacombe Art Guild for the warm welcome and hosting the workshop.

There is something pretty special about creating in community and it always fills my heart to do so. Thank you again. May your gauges always be full and your stitches snug. šŸ’•

Spent yesterday with this group of lovely ladies coiling up pine needle baskets. It was absolutely the best way to spend a chilly September day.

A HUGE thank you to Yeoford Hall for inviting into your community. It really was a delight to spend the day in your historic hall sharing my craft. Thank you Denise, Bobbi, Laura, Gaye and Twyla for joining me and learning a bit about pine needle basketry. Your little baskets all turned out beautifully and I hope you make many more. May your stitches always be snug and your gauges be full! šŸ’•

My heart is not full.

It has exploded. ā¤ļø

I honestly do not know how to put into words how much love, gratitude and appreciation for everyone that helped make Baskets in the Garden 2026 happen — and for everyone who came, shared, laughed, learned, created, connected and made this weekend so incredibly special.

There are so many people to thank, so many little moments I want to remember and so many things I’ll remember after I hit ā€˜post’.

For now, I just want to say thank you.

Thank you to every person who helped behind the scenes, every person who contributed their time, energy, skills, food, ideas, encouragement and heart. Thank you to our teachers who shared their knowledge and creativity so generously. And thank you to everyone who travelled, showed up with an open heart and helped create the community, that makes this gathering so special.

Thank you, thank you, thank you. ā¤ļø

I’ve been so busy getting things ready for Baskets in the Garden 2026 that studio time has been pretty scarce lately. But I did manage to sneak away and finish this simple concertina book as part of Unbound with Toni Hartill and Take Two Art Courses.

I’m really enjoying exploring the world of artist books and where this new path might lead.

And now… just two more sleeps until the retreat! I’m so excited to make baskets, share what I love, welcome folks to the farm and spend time together creating new memories, strengthening old friendships and making new ones.

I’m so looking forward to the weekend—and then back to the studio to continue this journey. šŸ“– šŸƒ

For some time now, I’ve found myself increasingly drawn to artist books and have now begun Unbound with Toni Hartill through Take Two Art Courses.

As I explore where my new series ā€˜What Is Given’ might lead, I’m beginning to see artist books part of the series and also a natural progression of my basketry practice

Baskets hold things.

So do books.

Both can hold treasures, stories, memories, meaning—and perhaps even things we are not quite ready to let go of.

This is my first little book ever. A meandering book showcasing old photos of my grandma’s mountain top garden and holding memories.

I am looking forward to seeing where this course takes me and sharing the experience with you. I know it’s going to be wonderful!

In my last post, I shared that I was beginning to feel the pull back into the studio, without quite knowing what might emerge.

I think I’m beginning to see it now.

I’m planning to start a new series called What Is Given, rooted in my long relationship with pine needles and contemporary basketry.

I have somewhat of an idea of where it’s headed, but I certainly don’t have it all figured out. I’m interested in listening to the material, pushing my creativity and discovering what the pine tree and its needles have to teach me along the way.

I’m excited to begin… one stitch at a time.

Oh, the ending of a beautiful day…what more can be said , except THANK YOU…Exactly what I needed. What about you?

I’ve been a little quiet lately.

Outside of teaching a few workshops this summer, I haven’t been making. Well, okay that’s not entirely true, I’ve been experimenting, playing around but mostly I’ve been allowing myself the space to pause—to observe, to gather ideas and to simply be in the Beaver Hills Biosphere that I call home and that continues to ground and inspire my work.

I’ve come to realize that creativity has seasons. Some are filled with making, while others are quieter, asking us to slow down, reflect and listen. I’m learning to trust that these quieter moments are just as important as the busy ones.

I’m beginning to feel the pull back to the studio and while I don’t quite exactly know what will emerge, I do feel something gently taking shape.

Thank you for staying with me through this quiet season. I’m looking forward to continuing our journey together in the near future.

For now, I’m simply paying attention and trusting that the next basket will reveal itself when it’s ready.
