You make it look easy.
I hear that more than I know how to answer.

The finished projects. The clients. The team. Almost seven years of CARV. What you don't see are the decisions made in the dark and the things I got wrong.

I thought the hardest part of starting a business would be building the business. It wasn't; it was learning to trust myself while I was building it.

I've compared myself to people with more funding, more connections, more time. We're not all starting from the same place.

Entrepreneurship will test every part of you: your patience, your resilience, your identity, your relationships.

With love, a nod to the GirlBoss era. Sophia Amoruso (we laughed and cried through every chapter). The conversation has evolved. Entrepreneurship is a choice: A deliberate one, made again every morning, especially on the hard ones.

My parents left everything to come to Canada. Their business, their home, their family, the life they knew. They didn't have certainty, but they just took the leap. Starting CARV wasn't the same, but I recognize something in it: you don't always get certainty before you decide. Sometimes, you build the certainty along the way.

I've been lucky (and grateful) to know people who remind me there isn't one right way. People who built silently, who took risks, changed direction, and chose ambition without apologizing for it.

To my family, my friends, my team, my clients: THANK YOU.

I'm not sharing this to give advice. I've watched people start, quit, pivot. Every choice takes courage.

Still, I don't have all the answers. I've gotten things wrong. I've kept going anyway.

And after all of it? I would choose this again. EVERY TIME.

Don't measure your beginning against someone else's middle. Keep going. Change direction. Start again. Whatever is right for you. That takes courage too. 🤍

We couldn’t wait to share some additional progress.

Upper East Side, New York. Our third commission for the same client.

By the third project, something shifts. You’re not getting to know someone anymore. You already know them. How they move through a space, what a room needs to feel like, what makes a home feel like theirs.

The direction: a nod to the Art Deco era. Moody, glamorous, filled with character. High gloss and lacquered finishes for a sense of glam that doesn’t shout. The emerald kitchen was the first call we made and it set the tone for everything that followed. The primary area takes a different approach: lighter, quieter, built for mornings and rest.

Each room has its own personality, while all of them still speak to each other.

These are phone photos from a project still coming together. The professional shoot will come, but some things you just can’t keep to yourself.

A month of heads down work.....and very good food!

July looked like permit and tender packages, construction admin across multiple projects, design development for projects deep in the design development phase, and more master plans and feasibility studies than we can count: the kind of work that doesn’t make it to the gram, but that makes everything else possible. We also photographed some projects that recently wrapped up.

We did pause for the World Cup final; some things are non-negotiable.

Andrea’s Cookies came through with what might be their best line-up yet. Strawberry matcha: you are in our hearts and our bellies. 🍪

Our old studio roomies Handling Space came back for Frittata Fridays. No juice shots this time (iykyk) , but Leo’s frittata is always on point. Some things don’t change. 💙

One of our commercial clients joined us for a furniture tour as we head into final selections. This is one of our favourite parts of the process; not just because the space starts to feel real, but because an afternoon in a showroom together tells you more about your client than the initial brief ever could. What they’re drawn to. What surprises them. What makes them light up in front of something they didn’t know they loved until they saw it. We always leave knowing them a little better and that makes everything we design after it a little more theirs.

SANCAL and Handling Space came by the studio with a preview of what’s new and cinnamon buns from . Tired of the food content? We can’t help it. We’re foodies. 🥐

The HanStone Quartz truck pulled up to the studio. We took a break, explored their new launches, and may have had some ice cream along the way. 🍦

And we popped into Gus moden to celebrate the launch of Ourse : a beautiful new collection from a Canadian-founded furniture brand. We’re always proud to support what’s being made here. 🇨🇦

July was full: heads down, screens up, sleeves rolled; but with some really good memories made in between.

August is here. We’re soaking up every last bit of it before it’s pumpkin latte season again.

// PROJECT ARTICHOKE: The Sun Room

Some rooms tell you what they want: this one was clear from the moment we walked in.

The sun room's glass and wood wall extends from the floor and curves into the ceiling. It was the first original architectural feature we observed and the last element we wanted touched. It stays, it's celebrated, and everything else builds around it.

Right off the dining room, this space had a different agenda from the rest of the ground floor. This family of four needed somewhere relaxed, casual, built for everyday life. The room where they actually hang out as a family, everyday.

The chess set on the coffee table tells that story better than we could. The peonies on the edge of the table. The watering can on the windowsill. The Saturday morning that starts with coffee and turns into a board game nobody finishes. The kids sprawled on the floor while a grown-up reads in the corner. A room that is actually used, and that supports family life in the best possible way.

We chose furniture with an outdoor quality, a natural response to the pool view and greenery just beyond the glass. Textural, durable, the kind that gets better with use. A generous sectional, textural cushions, and woven chairs that provide additional seating, while bringing in more layers of texture. A large coffee table low enough to gather around, comfortable enough for the whole family to stay longer than they planned.

And throughout: greenery from , placed so that on the greyest days in February, when Toronto is doing what Toronto does and the trees outside are bare, this family still has a corner of the house that feels warm, alive, and connected to the outside world; the glass and wood wall takes care of the rest.

Look up through that glass ceiling and you'll see why they needed it.

The long weekend is over. Beaver Valley isn't going anywhere.

August in the valley is something people don't talk about enough. The hills are full and green. The trails are open. The fireplace is quiet for now. But the room isn't. It embraces a different kind of warmth in summer. The kind that comes through a window like that one, on a morning with nowhere to be.

We designed this space to live every month of the year. That large window and backdrop wasn't envisioned for ski season alone. It was chosen for this too. The green in August. The Fall colours in October. The cozy fires in January.

Project 901: currently available at 901 King St West. A landlord turnkey model suite designed to lease.

The front lounge had an irregular footprint. Not a rectangular space. A room with its own geometry that needed to be worked with.

We started with the floor plan.

An angular sofa mirrors the lines of the room rather than contradicting them. Where a standard sectional creates visual friction, this piece creates flow. A vintage marble coffee table anchors the seating group. Solid, grounded, heavy enough to balance the angularity around it and the 15-foot ceiling above.

A low bookshelf defines circulation without closing the space off. Accent chairs and layered lighting bring intimacy to a room that could otherwise feel uncommitted.

Every piece in direct conversation with the room's own footprint.

In commercial interior design, a model suite has one job: help prospective tenants see themselves in the space. Not just appreciate it. Picture themselves working inside it. The right tenant walks through this lounge and doesn't think about the floor plan at all. They think about where they'd put their morning coffee.

When a tenant stops noticing the room and starts imagining working in it, design has done exactly what it was meant to do.

// ARTICHOKE HOUSE : THE DINING ROOM

From the very beginning, this room had a clear brief.

A family of four, newly settled in the outskirts of Toronto, knew exactly what they needed here. Not a formal dining room kept for guests. A room built for the life they actually live.

The weeknight dinners. The homework spread across the table at 4pm before it gets cleared for plates at 6. The holiday gatherings that stretch past midnight. The ordinary moments that quietly become the ones a family remembers most.

That brief shaped every decision we made.

At the centre of it: the table.

This family wanted something worth gathering around for generations. A piece made with intention, built to last, and made locally. We worked with Acre Made Furniture on a beautifully handcrafted, locally made dining table that anchors the entire room; the kind of piece that gets handed down, that carries a family's history inside the grain of the wood.

We designed everything else in the space to match that quiet intention. It feels warm, but never heavy. Layered, but not loud. A dining room has a tough job: it has to handle the messy, everyday moments just as gracefully as a milestone celebration. We wanted this space to know how to do both."

No walls touched. No structural changes.
Just the right decisions, made for a wonderful family.

“Can we start our renovation in 4 weeks?” I wanted to say yes.

We get this question constantly. But the reality is: an average small-to-mid size renovation can take 9 to 12 months from the day you hire your Toronto interior designer. Large-scale projects and new builds take even longer.

Here is how that timeline actually breaks down:

▪️ Project Kick-off: Deep-dive onboarding and exact site measures.

▪️ Design Development (6-12 weeks): Finalizing layouts, fixtures, and finishes. Rush this, and you’ll change your mind mid-construction.

▪️ Construction Drawings (6-8 weeks): The technical blueprints contractors price from and the city issues permits against.

▪️ Permit Review (6-10+ weeks): Entirely up to the municipality.

▪️ Construction Kick-off (Months, not weeks): Good contractors are booked out, and custom materials take time to arrive.

None of these stages overlap. They typically stack.

When a contractor prices a completed design, you get an accurate number. When they price an incomplete scope, they estimate the gaps. Estimates become change orders, and change orders become the expensive budget conversation nobody wants to have on site.

The clients finishing beautifully this Summer? They called last September. Summer is precisely when the clients breaking ground next May start planning.
