I saved painting the cherry stems for last. I knew it would be so fun! This is a part of my process for 2026 by THEY DRAW…Food! 🎂

I've also only decided to draw the food prompts because I realized I don't enjoy painting flowers lol. I learn something new about myself every time I draw and paint!

Since I turned my art into a career business, I found creating for fun (and for myself) so much harder. I've convinced myself that the time I spend painting or drawing is precious so these illustrations need to turn into something – something I can sell, teach, use to apply to shows or competitions. So much so that creating has become less fun. So this October, I'm taking a break from all that and will simply paint and draw for fun while following prompts. I'm not putting pressure on myself to finish the whole 31 days. The only goal is have fun and fall in love with creating again. And so far, I've been doing a very good job at it.

I'm used to painting small and simple subjects but I've been wanting to challenge myself to painting bigger scenes. So when I took on the challenge to paint this 16" x 20" "Tub of Nostalgia" featuring biscuits that I used to share with my grandfather as a kid, it took me several days across a few weeks - frequently stopping, breaking down haha, and painting other things in between – before I finally finished this piece. I'm glad I did because I'm so proud of it! It became the star of my Kensington Market Art Fair show. ❤️

I'm kicking myself for not capturing all the people who looked at my "Tub of Nostalgia" gouache painting like it's Where's Waldo or as if they're zooming in on tiny street on Google Maps. I was really happy to see people do that because I like my paintings to look hyperrealistic from afar only for you to discover the simplicity – and even imperfections – of the the elements when you look closely, making you feel fascinated and just a little bit baffled. 👀

I just wrapped up my first Kensington Market Art Fair (also my first show in Downtown Toronto)! It started out a bit chaotic for me because of the strong winds and my newbie outdoor market setup. Fortunately, things calmed down as the fair went on. I didn't sell any originals just yet but I'm happy to see so many people admire my paintings and even seriously considered getting one. I did sell fine art prints for the first time with one person buying three prints at once!

I haven't made it yet but hey it's only been three months since I launched my art business. I'll keep going until I convince you to get my paintings as . 🏠 ☺️
