Indigo Buntings split their time between North and Central America. Specifically, they spend spring and summer in the eastern and southwestern United States, then fall and winter in Central America and some islands of the Caribbean.

In the United States, they have traditionally been found from Maine south to Florida and west to Texas and North Dakota. Their range has recently expanded into the Southwest and the Four Corners region.
It’s easy to tell male and female Indigo Buntings apart. Throughout the year, they are differently colored.

Females are dusty chestnut brown year-round. Some may have diffuse light blue stripes on their wings too.

During the breeding season, males are a bright cobalt blue. Their heads are slightly darker than the rest of them, although some may have darker blue wingtips. They are sometimes referred to as the “blue canary”.

At other times of the year, the male has more brown feathers. His tail, wings, and part of his neck may be brown. However, the blue feathers of his head and back are still visible. ..

• Gray Catbirds belong to the family Mimidae, an assortment of songbirds known for their mimicry, including mockingbirds, thrashers, and tremblers. Like other mimids, Gray Catbirds exhibit impressive vocal prowess, with males able to rattle off an array of phrases featuring chirps, squeaks, whistles, whines, and even gurgles. When singing, performances can last more than 10 minutes and incorporate songs from other bird species, tree frog calls, and even manmade and mechanical sounds!

• Gray Catbirds can produce two sounds at the same time thanks to their ability to use each side of their syrinx, or vocal organ, independently. These songsters can also produce sounds from only one side at a time or alternate between the right and left sides. .

---------------------------------------.
Vividly colored and with sweet and recognizable songs, rose-breasted grosbeaks are one of the more easily spotted bird species, as they prefer forest edges and other places easily accessible to humans. They can be seen hopping along the ground or flying with elegant arcs and shallow swoops.
• Rose-breasted grosbeaks will visit backyard bird feeders, especially for sunflower seeds.

• The male rose-breasted grosbeak is sometimes called the “cutthroat bird” due to the bright scarlet patch along its throat and chest.

• They are in the same family as northern cardinals.

• Female rose-breasted grosbeak females are almost identical to female black-headed grosbeaks; the two species can even interbreed!.

(an extract from www.birdsdelight.com):
“There was a Red-headed Woodpecker in my yard”, my brother tells me.    Then after I ask him a few questions about the bird I find out that it really was a Red-bellied Woodpecker.  He does not know much about birds so I had to ask.  The reason being is because many people incorrectly identify the Red-bellied for a Red-headed Woodpecker.  Of course it doesn’t help that you really can’t see much of a red belly on the Red-bellied Woodpecker.  It is more of a faded red color even more like a blush, not near as bright red as its head, so it makes more sense to call it a Red-headed.  Doesn’t it?.
Red-bellied Woodpecker Facts

• The Red-bellied Woodpecker is a common woodpecker that can be found on the eastern half of the United States as far south as Texas and as far north as Canada.  Its habitat is woodlands, forest edges, suburban backyards, parks, and orchards.

• This bird is a medium size woodpecker and is from nine to ten and a half inches in length.  Their wingspan is from fifteen to eighteen inches.

Facts:
Although the Indigo Bunting still appears to be abundant throughout its range, Partners in Flight surveys show population decreases — a scenario increasingly seen in other once-common bird species such as Wood Thrush and Common Yellowthroat. A major culprit is habitat loss on both breeding and wintering grounds. .
ABC is working to halt these decreases through its BirdScapes program, which aims to protect habitat for still-common species such as Indigo Bunting, as well as birds at greater risk like Golden-winged Warbler. ..

BASIC DESCRIPTION

North America has more than 50 species of warblers, but few combine brilliant color and easy viewing quite like the Yellow Warbler. In summer, the buttery yellow males sing their sweet whistled song from willows, wet thickets, and roadsides across almost all of North America. The females and immatures aren’t as bright, and lack the male’s rich chestnut streaking, but their overall warm yellow tones, unmarked faces, and prominent black eyes help pick them out..
