The biggest lie you've been told about lighting?

It isn't, and buying all your fixtures from the same store is one of the fastest ways to date your home.

Lighting is an opportunity to create something sculptural and unique in each room, setting the tone of that space in a way that feels intentional rather than identical.

Different finish, different shape, different style - but all held together with the same thread of intention running through the home.

That's what makes a space feel elevated rather than like a showroom floor.

The number one design mistake I see?

Thinking everything has to match. It doesn't, and letting go of that idea is the moment a room starts to feel truly elevated.

Start small: a few accessories on the coffee table in a colour you love, a mix of shades that feel good together, and build from there.

A cushion.
A pattern.
An area rug that pulls it all in.

Layering colour slowly is what gives a space depth and personality, and it makes every decision feel intentional rather than overwhelming.

Designers don't do theme, we do style.

And there's a real difference between a home that feels connected to its surroundings and one that's decorated around a concept.

A lake house doesn't need signs about the lake.
A beach home doesn't need seashells.

What it needs is a colour palette pulled from nature, materials that feel grounded in the landscape, and layering that creates a space that's timeless rather than literal

That's exactly what we did for our Selkirk project, and the result is a home that feels like it truly belongs where it sits.
