When the sink becomes the most beautiful feature in the kitchen. 🤍

Carved from the same marble as the countertop, these sculptural sinks turn an everyday function into something extraordinary. Thoughtful grooves and a subtly sloped drying surface allow water to drain directly back into the basin: beautifully integrated, with nothing added and nothing interrupting the stone.

But details this seamless require careful planning. The sink dimensions, drainage slope, stone thickness, waterproofing and faucet placement all need to be resolved before fabrication begins.

The wrong warm white can make your entire renovation feel…off.

You wanted warm, but not yellow. Soft, but not pink. Neutral, but not cold.

The problem is that “warm white” isn’t a single colour category.

Every warm white has an undertone. Some lean creamy or golden. Some lean pink or peach. Others lean taupe, grey or slightly earthy.

You may barely notice that undertone on a small paint chip. But once the colour covers an entire room, it becomes much more apparent, especially beside your flooring, countertops, cabinetry and tile.

That’s why choosing paint from a two-inch sample is never enough.

Before committing:

• Paint large samples, not tiny swatches
• View them on more than one wall
• Check them in morning, afternoon and evening light
• Compare them directly with your fixed finishes
• Look at the colour with your lights turned on and off

The goal isn’t simply to find a beautiful warm white.

It’s to find the warm white whose undertone works with everything else you’ve already chosen.

Because when a white paint colour feels wrong, it usually isn’t random.

It’s leaning somewhere your room doesn’t want to go.

What if hardwood wasn’t the automatic choice?

For decades, homeowners have been conditioned to think that hardwood flooring is the superior, and perhaps only, choice for the main living areas of a renovated home.

Hardwood is beautiful. But it isn’t the only material capable of making a home feel timeless, sophisticated or valuable.

Terrazzo can bring texture and personality. Polished concrete can feel calm and architectural. Marble can turn the floor into a defining design feature. Patterned tile can introduce history and character. Even wall-to-wall carpet, once a fixture in beautifully decorated homes, can create softness, warmth and quiet.

The images in this carousel show how dramatically the same room changes when only the flooring changes. Each material gives the architecture an entirely different point of view.

The lesson isn’t that one floor is better than another. It’s that flooring should be a considered design decision—not simply a default.

Before choosing yours, think about how you want the home to feel, how you actually live, and what the material will require beneath the surface. Floor height, subfloor preparation, transitions, acoustics, heating and maintenance all need to be considered before construction begins.

Hardwood may still be the right answer.

But it doesn’t have to be the answer every time.

The most expensive renovation decisions are often the ones you didn’t know you needed to make until someone is standing on site waiting for an answer.
Where should this outlet go?
Which way should the door swing?
What height is the sconce?
Which tile edge are we using?
Does this change affect the budget, or the schedule?
None of these decisions seems enormous on its own. But when they pile up during construction, you’re making choices quickly, under pressure, often without enough information to understand the ripple effect.
That’s where compromises, change orders and regret can creep in.
A well-planned renovation moves as many decisions as possible out of construction and into planning, when you still have the time and flexibility to make them thoughtfully.
Your contractor has a job. You have one too.
Knowing what needs to be decided, and when, is a big part of yours.

For years, one of the first questions in a renovation has been:

“Can we open this up?”

But fewer walls don’t automatically mean better design.

I actually love defined rooms. Walls create boundaries, and those boundaries create design freedom.

A dining room can be moodier. A living room can carry bold wallpaper. Colour, pattern and materials can shift from room to room without everything needing to match.

And there’s something beautiful about not seeing the entire home at once. Doorways frame views and rooms reveal themselves as you move through the space.

Open concept can absolutely work, but before removing a wall, consider the design opportunities you might be losing.

Sometimes walls don’t limit good design. They enable it.

It’s assuming every contractor is pricing the project the same way.
They’re not.
Two quotes can look nearly identical on paper and be structured completely differently behind the scenes.
One contractor may be carrying most of the risk.
Another may be passing much of that risk to you.
The problem is that many homeowners don’t realize this until the renovation is underway and the unexpected costs start appearing.
This is why I teach homeowners to stop comparing prices first and start understanding how the contract is structured.
Because the contract determines:
