One of our favourite parts of a renovation happens long before the furniture arrives.

It’s this stage right here.

The flooring is being installed. The shower stone is up, complete with the niche ready for everyday essentials. Paint colours are covering the walls in giant test swatches while we watch how they shift throughout the day.

At this point, most people still see a construction site. We start seeing the future home.

The thing is, none of these decisions happen on their own. The flooring influences the paint. The paint influences the stone. The stone influences every finish that follows.

It’s a bit like putting together a puzzle where every piece affects the next.

There’s a tendency to play it safe in bathrooms. Neutral tile. White cabinetry. Nothing too bold. And honestly, there’s nothing wrong with that. But smaller spaces are often the perfect place to have a little more fun.

This ended up becoming one of the most memorable spaces in the entire Roncesvalles renovation because we leaned into contrast.

Deep indigo millwork, heavily veined stone, warm brass fixtures, and lighting that feels a little unexpected all bring something different to the room.

The whole space feels layered, moody, and full of personality in a way that still feels timeless.

💾Save this for bathroom inspiration.

One of the biggest misconceptions about luxury is that it has to feel formal. In reality, the homes people love most usually feel effortless.

They’re the homes where you can host friends on Saturday night and eat toast at the island in your pajamas on Sunday morning without anything feeling out of place.

That balance was incredibly important in this Rosedale project.

The homeowners wanted something elevated but relaxed, so we focused on natural materials that age beautifully and spaces that flow easily from one room to the next.

The marble, oak, raw metals, and soft palette create a sense of refinement, while the layout keeps the entire home feeling inviting, comfortable, and easy to live in.

Coffee table styling is one of those things that people tend to overthink, but honestly, we usually approach it pretty simply.

When we’re styling a coffee table, we want it to feel connected to the home and the people living there. Most of the time, we’re layering coffee table books, fresh flowers or greenery, and one or two pieces that feel personal to the space.

The number one thing to remember with coffee table styling is that it should hold things you genuinely enjoy looking at every day. That’s what makes a home feel personal.

Save this for the next time you’re looking for coffee table styling inspiration.

I swear my kitchen table always becomes the spot where everything happens.

We don’t have a formal dining room, so this table gets used for literally everything. Morning coffee, lunches, kids hanging around while I’m in the kitchen.

When I was designing our main floor, I wanted it to feel comfortable. Nothing too formal or too perfect. I wanted materials that could handle everyday life with teenagers but still look beautiful since this space is one of the first things you see when you walk in and it’s open to the rest of the main floor.

I think we’re collectively craving homes that feel softer and more nostalgic these days.

That’s one reason we often find ourselves recommending shower curtains instead of glass enclosures.

A full-height linen curtain introduces something bathrooms often need more of: warmth. It balances all the stone, tile, and hard finishes while bringing in subtle movement and texture that feel natural and lived-in.

It also happens to feel a little nostalgic in the best possible way.

The kind of detail that reminds you of boutique hotels, countryside inns, or homes that have been thoughtfully collected over time.

💭Would you choose glass or a shower curtain in your own home?

We’ll always choose materials with character over materials that feel too perfect. Especially with stone.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The tiny imperfections, dramatic veining, and natural variation are usually what give a home its depth and personality. Without that, spaces can start feeling a little too polished, almost untouchable. And most people don’t actually want that. They want homes that feel warm, layered, and comfortable to fully live in.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
That’s why we spend so much time pairing materials during the design process: looking at how stone interacts with wood tones, metals, glass, textiles, and natural light throughout the day. Those combinations shape the entire atmosphere of a space.

We think kids’ bedrooms work best when they don’t feel too childish.

Not because kids shouldn’t have personality in their spaces, but because the room should still feel comforting, and able to grow with them over time.

For this Project Durand bedroom, we leaned into softer layers and a more collected feeling instead of anything overly theme-driven. The canopy bed adds a little whimsy, while the warm muted walls, and linen drapery keep everything feeling cozy and relaxed.

And that woven chair by the window feels like the perfect little spot for bedtime stories, slow mornings, or quiet moments after busy days.

💾 Save this for kids’ bedroom inspiration.

You know what nobody talks about enough with renovations? Decision fatigue.

At first it feels exciting. Then suddenly you’re comparing 47 paint colours, tile patterns, and cabinet fronts at midnight while trying to understand contractor quotes that all say completely different things.

It’s a lot. And most homeowners aren’t lacking taste or vision, they’re lacking clarity and guidance.

That’s exactly why we created this free guide: to help take the guesswork off your shoulders before the overwhelm kicks in.

Inside, we share the same guidance we walk our full-service clients through, including how to:

📌Build a budget that truly works for your lifestyle
📌Define a clear scope that keeps the project on track
📌Pinpoint the splurges worth making for long-term value
📌Know which professionals you’ll need on your team (and why)
