A bright idea for your home.

We’ve been riding that slogan ever since my man coined it for us years back. Thanks dude - we’re still getting great mileage out of that line all these years later. 😂

But this photo makes me think about something else I’m pretty proud of.

If you’re a contractor who’s particular about your work, you know how hard it is to find guys who respect the craft and care about the finished product as much as you do.

I consider myself extremely fortunate to have guys I can wholeheartedly trust to uphold the standard we’ve built at Eternalight. They know what it means, and they care about what they leave behind.

And one of the compliments we get from clients all the time has nothing to do with the lights or the quality of the install.

They tell us how much they enjoyed having our crew around. How much fun the guys seem to have together. How refreshing it is to see people genuinely enjoying the work they’re doing.

🙌 I love hearing that.

We work hard. We’re super particular. But there’s absolutely no reason we can’t have a blast doing it together.

So this photo of me standing back and watching the guys absolutely smash this install is one that means a lot to me.

Permanent lighting doesn't have to be just about Christmas.

Some nights, it's worth turning on simply because it makes your house look really damn good.

And during the day? You barely know it's there.

That's exactly how we want it.

You get into lighting for the glow, but you stay for the track. It's the unsung hero, always present, even when the lights are off. Making it discreet and perfectly aligned is key to truly elevating a space.

I SPY... permament lights 👀

There are permanent lights installed all over the house in the background of this photo.

Take a close look, and see if you can find them.

They're running along the rooflines, peaks and architectural details of the home — but unless you're really looking for them, you'd probably never know they were there.

That's exactly the point.

This photo was actually taken while we were installing the lighting track on the homeowner's pool house. The main house had already been completed, and I love that you can see it sitting there in the background looking almost completely untouched.

Because permanent lighting isn't only part of your house when you turn it on.

It's there at 9am.

It's there at noon.

It's there when you're cutting the grass, sitting by the pool, or pulling into the driveway.

So we put a ridiculous amount of thought into how the system looks when it's OFF.

Track size. Colour matching. Placement. Alignment. Wiring. Every little transition.

At night, that house can completely come alive.

During the day?

You might have to play a game of "I Spy" just to find the lights.

And that's exactly how we like it.

You want stunning holiday or team colors at night, but during the day? You don't want to see the lights at all. That's the obsession: making the system visually disappear. It's all about the house looking incredible, whether the lights are on or off.

This might be one of my favourite photos of our work.

And there’s a good chance you’re looking at it wondering why.

No beautiful nighttime shot. No Christmas colours. No warm white glow across the front of a house.

It’s just a corner.

But this little corner probably tells you more about the quality of a permanent lighting installation than almost any nighttime photo could.

Look closely.

The track follows the architecture. The corners are cut and fitted specifically for the application. The aluminum is colour-matched. The lights sit exactly where they’re supposed to. No exposed wires. No oversized channels. No shortcuts because “you won’t notice it from the road.”

I’ve become a little obsessed with one question over the years:

What does permanent lighting look like when the lights are OFF?

Because making lights look great at night isn’t particularly difficult.

They’re lights.

Turn them on, blast some colour through them, stand across the street and they’re probably going to look pretty cool.

But they’re only ON for a fraction of the day.

The rest of the time, they’re permanently attached to your house.

That’s why we spend an almost ridiculous amount of time on details most customers will probably never think about.

Where should the track sit?
How should we handle this corner?
Can we hide that wire completely?
Should we mount underneath or on the face?
Can we follow that architectural feature instead of taking the easier route?

Sometimes it means another cut. Sometimes it means throwing away a piece that was technically “good enough.” Sometimes it means spending 20 minutes on a tiny detail someone might look at for 20 seconds over the next ten years.

We do it anyway.

Because the best permanent lighting installation is one you have to actually look for during the day.

At night? I want you to notice it from down the street.

During the day? I’d rather you barely notice it at all.

That’s the difference between putting permanent lights on a house and integrating them into a home.

And sometimes the best example of that difference…

is just a corner.

The details matter. Especially the ones nobody notices.

Honestly, Christmas might be the least exciting thing you use this system for.

Most of our homeowners use their lights all year round, Halloween, Canada Day, game days, birthdays, backyard parties, and a lot of them actually stop using their pot lights altogether once they realize how good it looks on their home.

Once it's installed, you have complete control to customize your home's lighting any time you want, for any occasion.
