I was born and raised on the west coast of Canada. From farming in the Fraser Valley, to living on a vintage 1933 vessel on Quadra Island, to finally settling more than 30 years ago in Qualicum Beach to raise my family; my love of the outdoors as always been a constant. I'd wanted to study art from an early age, but life has an amazing way of helping you put other priorities in its place. Fast for

ward many decades, to when I had the privilege of meeting world-renowned woodturner / carver Douglas J. To my good fortune, I had the distinct honour of working under his guidance for more than two years prior to his retirement. This incredible opportunity to learn from a master has opened an exciting, new chapter for me as an artist. Working with my hands to create and release an image that tells a story in wood is an exciting process.

A new design from Jeremy Humpherville. Incorporating some beautiful west coast aspects and design. Sun, mountains , trees, Orca. A substantial piece at 31 inches long and 3 inches thick, featuring impressive maple burl grain. A very challenging and exciting design.

The finished hummingbird piece, now with final finishing to help bring out the grain and richness. This design by Jeremy Humpherville was a pleasure to bring to life. 48 cm / 19 inch diameter one piece figured big leaf maple.

It’s appropriate that I received This latest hummingbird design by Jeremy Humpherville for National Indigenous month. It’s been a while between collaborations and an honour to work together again. Just a few pics of the process so far, design, burning the design into the piece, carving, some texturing of the background. I will continue texturing then consider colour and finishing.

This time of year I’m in the garden as much as I’m in the shop. This standardized Wisteria ( sinensis) has been putting on a great show each spring for us. And the fragrance ! Wow.
