Food colouring on carpet? Act fast — it can become a permanent stain.
Food colouring may look harmless, but once it hits carpet fibres, it can quickly bond with the material and become difficult to remove, especially on light-coloured carpets.
Here’s what to do right away:
Blot, don’t rub.
Use a clean white towel to absorb as much liquid as possible. Rubbing can push the dye deeper into the carpet.
Use cold water first.
Lightly dampen the area with cold water and continue blotting. Avoid hot water, as heat can help set the dye.
Try a mild cleaning solution.
Mix a small amount of dish soap with cold water. Apply gently, then blot with a clean towel.
Rinse and extract.
Use clean water to rinse out any soap residue, then blot or use a wet/dry vacuum to remove moisture.
Avoid harsh chemicals.
Bleach, strong spot removers, or the wrong cleaner can cause colour loss or make the stain worse.
If the colour remains after cleaning, it may no longer be a regular “stain” — it may be a dye issue. That’s where colour correction and carpet dye restoration come in.
At Can Dye Carpets, we specialize in removing, correcting, and restoring carpet colour damage caused by food colouring, drinks, bleach, ink, fading, and other tough stains.
Before you replace the carpet, see if it can be restored.
