So how do people feel about wood grain?
Most of the frames I've built have a more subtle, straighter grain (from lumber that I have had picked), but oak is known for its accentuated grain patterns... As you can see on the frame in the center.
One artist I know finds that stripey oak grain to be too strong of a visual for them... distracting from the art piece.
I tend to agree, but it seems merely a personal preference. I'd like to hear from a wider audience....I'm very curious to hear some thoughts from the community here. Do you even notice the difference? Is this something you think about when you buy wooden frames?
zebra cool, or no? 🦓 🧐
For reference, that "zebra" style is the more common cut, widely available, and the most affordable for Red oak. I've been making other choices, but I'd like to determine if the extra effort and cost is worth it for the more subtle grain?
