Nobody wants their house looking like it’s mid-December all year round.

So the question we get asked is, what does the permanent holiday lighting system look like during the day/in the middle of summer?

So glad you asked! The lighting system disappears into the roofline. The track sits tucked up under the edge with the lights inside it, so from the street the house looks exactly as it did before.

Then in the evening you turn on whatever you want, warm white most of the year and something else when the occasion calls for it.

You'll notice it this week if you haven't already... you go outside after dinner to move the sprinkler or bring a glass back in, and it's darker than it was two weeks ago.

Late August is when the evenings get noticeably shorter, and it's usually when people realise the parts of the garden they've enjoyed all summer are about to be hard to see for a good stretch of the year.

There are two ways to have holiday lighting on your house. Here's the difference between the two:

Traditional holiday lighting is what most people picture. We come out in the autumn and install it, then take it down in January and store it until next year. It doesn't have to be just the house either. It can run through trees, along fences and gates, or around larger shrubs, wherever makes sense on your property. It suits you if you want a classic look for a few weeks a year and would rather not think about it the rest of the time.

Celebright is permanent lighting fixed to the building itself, most often along the roofline, though it can run along fences and other structures too. It goes up once and stays there, and you control the colours from your phone, so the same system covers Halloween, December, Canada Day and every ordinary evening in between, with nothing to put up or take down each year.

Neither one is the better option. Which one makes sense depends on your property and how you want to use it, and that's what the walkthrough is for.

We love collaborating with local communities to light up eye-catching installs like this one in Garden Court, Sidney, and to bring more traditional lighting to village centres across Greater Victoria and Southern Vancouver Island.

This kind of work is different from a residential install. The lanterns hang where people pass every day and belong to everyone walking through, which is what brings culture and vibrancy to a neighbourhood. A display like this gives people a reason to slow down and look up, and it becomes part of how a place feels to live in rather than something you look at once.

Greater Victoria has no shortage of properties with beautiful mature trees on them. They're some of our favourite projects to work on.

A mature tree is one of the highlights of an existing yard, and lighting one takes surprisingly little. One or two fixtures at the base is often the whole job, and it changes how the entire space reads from the house and from the road.

It also changes everything around it. Without it, the garden stops at whatever the path lights reach and the rest is a dark wall. Light a tree behind that and the space has depth again.

We're the only company on Southern Vancouver Island that does outdoor lighting and nothing else, so your project isn't getting squeezed in between landscaping jobs. Most people have one spot on their property they've quietly given up on once it's dark.
Usually it's the side of the house. The bit with the bins and the hose reel and the recycling that has to go out on a Tuesday night, with no light any closer than the kitchen window. So you prop the back door open to see what you're doing and hope you've grabbed the right bin.

It's a small thing, but it's exactly the kind of small thing that two or three well placed fixtures sort out for good.

You don't have to light your whole property. Start with the area that's been bothering you the most.

We talk about Celebright and permanent lighting options, but we’re guessing most of you might not know what that means.

It’s a run of small LED lights that we install along your roofline, tucked in tight enough that you don’t really notice them during the day. At night they can be more or less anything you want, and you control the whole thing from your phone.

Most of our clients keep them on a soft warm white for everyday, then switch over to orange for the last week of October, red and green through December, or their team’s colours when there’s a game on. And if you’d rather the house was dark, you turn them off.

The nice part is you can set the whole thing on a schedule and forget about it. You can also have them follow the sunrise and sunset times for Victoria, so they adjust on their own as the days get shorter.

Because they stay up year round, there’s no ladder in November and no bin of tangled lights in the garage.

We offer a 10-year warranty on parts and a 3-year warranty on labour.
