Odinson Creations

Odinson Creations I have a lot of interests, and make a range of things. Check the About Section for more! I create what's interesting to me.

Straight out of The Great White North with my base of operations located smack dab in the middle of Canada, Odinson Creations, (formerly Dan J. Gutwein Creations), is a dream of mine that is slowly turning into reality. I started this off 11 years ago by upcylcling dead retro video game systems, controllers, and game cartridges into wallets, purses, or just a container for whatever you like. I've

done some paintings, I've painted a customized Roller Derby helmet, created dioramas, made jewellery from upcycled parts (again from video game systems), created some pieces from wood, made tabletop gaming boxes which were also custom painted, and I've recently (as of 2021) gotten into working with metal (brass, steel, copper) either with my trusty Dremel tool or the blacksmith forge. Specifically carving pendants from solid brass, making my first knife cut from an old circular saw blade (along with custom leather sheath), and playing around in the blacksmith shop of the charity Ahead Inc

So, to sum it up, I create what I like. Yes, I do definitely take commissions and my books are currently OPEN for commissions. Thanks for taking a look, please feel free to message me with any questions you may have!

More 1st Sword Ever progress pics! Got the hilt on, handle scales attached, and sanded it down today. Fairly happy with it. Definitely see a lot of little things to fix, to do better next time, etc. :)

And yet another "It's been a long time!" post.. but I did have a pretty big year, pretty hectic summer, and some major life changes so I can't get on my own case too much I guess.

So this is a new project. First time attempting to make a sword. This sword (just mild steel) is for a memorial piece for someone who passed on, but fought hard not only against mental health issues, but to be heard on said issues their entire life. But.. it's still a sword, and it's definitely made of steel. I'm fairly happy with how it turned out (still gotta, hopefully, get out to the great and powerful Forging Ahead Inc.s shop to finish the hand guard and maybe add some more texturing to the sword.

The handle will be just spruce/pine as it will be mounted to a big backing. And I've got some copper wire to work into this project as well as inlay a piece of turquoise into the pommel. Will post more as I make more progress.

Thanks for sticking around, hope you enjoy the content. Hopefully it picks up!

Finished my third ever leather sheath. Because I am how I am I both like it, and also see mistakes that were made. But that's just things to improve on on the next one I make. I loved making this though! Need to do more! Feels wonderful 😊

From where it started to current (as of last night). Just have to stitch on one piece to make the belt loop and either stain and/or oil it, then it's done. This is the third sheath I've ever made.

Also the first real project I've not only had, but have had the mental and emotional calmness to actually pour myself into, for damn near a year. Felt wonderful to get as much done on it yesterday as I did. I'm pretty pleased with it.

More pics when it's 100% complete. Thanks for your time!

Been facing some pretty big life changes since last spring. Also finally facing some pretty old wounds, finding more, but slowly dealing with them. Basically the cause of my depression, anxiety, and cPTSD. Starting over at square one, at nearly 47 years old, has been challenging to say the least. Let alone starting over again while finally figuring out what made me such a broken person for decades of my life AND finally addressing those issues.

I haven't made anything in 10+ months. Yes, even though I KNOW that making/creating is amazing for the mind, heart and soul. I was fighting a losing battle with my depression but, today, I finally started to address this issue (well I sketched the plan out a few days ago).

SO, here's progress so far on a brand new sheath for a friend of mine who's old knife sheath was being held together by duct tape and a prayer to whatever gods he held close every morning lol. More progress early next month after I can purchase some epoxy and leatherworking stitching supplies.

If you've stuck around, I appreciate it. Make something. For you, for someone, hell fix something! Repair it, make it work again. It scratches an itch in your head. Makes ya feel good. And if you screw it up? You've still learned something. It's still a positive.

Hope you all have a wonderful weekend, folks. :)

Hello All.

Long time, no posts. This may help explain why there's been radio silence from Odinson Creations.

This is something I've been struggling with for quite a while now. It's not a decision I take lightly at all. I've fought with myself on creating this, fought feelings of shame, of weakness, of feeling not worth the help. The truth is between my separation and other major life changes I find myself starting over at square one, and I need to move forward. But, (and this is the difficult part), I realize that I need help. So I'm asking for that. Every little bit helps. I deeply appreciate your time, energy and effort.

Forging isn’t just about action and movement; it’s about finding stillness in the process. A steady hand, the rhythm of the hammer, the heat of the forge, and the calm of the mind must all align. This balance helps soothe the mind and heal the spirit. The art of blacksmithing requires us to understand our emotions and cultivate inner peace. 🛠️🔥✨

Got out to Forging Ahead Inc. today to work on MY skills so I can hopefully help others better.

Forging Ahead Inc is a not for profit charity that aims to help veterans and first responders utilize artistic blacksmithing to, essentially, help deal with PTSD and other OSIs (operational stress injuries). Interested? Want to come out? Heck, want to get involved? Let me know! I'm the shop assistant and charity secretary! :) Check out the video, and I hope you all have a kickass week!
