Here is the market schedule for the rest of the season. Please note that our last market is October 3rd- we will not be at a Thanksgiving market this year. For Thanksgiving flowers you can order from us through the Wolfville Farmers Market online store and it will be delivered in October 7th* unless we get a crazy early frost.

September is also the month of Zinnias. These flowers are easy to grow, but get tricky when it come to harvesting: they have to pass the “wiggle” test (basically they have to be firm and not flop over).
Making them last a long time in a vase is the other trick. If you buy flowers from me then you’ve heard me say “zinnias are dirty flower…” which inevitably gets some raised eyebrows, “…which means they make the water quite gunky quite quickly, so make sure you change the water every 1-2 days”. For some people this is too much work, but if you want these beauties to last, then you have to take care of them.

It’s Canadian Flower week and we are here for it! All our flowers are grown here our farm in the beautiful Annapolis Valley, Nova Scotia. When we don’t have enough, then we source from another local farm who is about 10 minutes away.
Love keeping it local!
We will be at the Halifax Seaport Market Saturday starting at 8am.

Let’s do a reintroduction. I’m Jessica, mom/flower farmer/ manager of our family 😎
Things I love and hate about flower farming:
- I love working outside, but hate this humidity. I’d rather work in the cold rain over this humidity.
- I love my rubber boots, they are the most comfortable footwear I own. I hate when my socks fall down and get all scrunchy under my foot- seriously this is the worst. I usually walk over 25,000 steps per day (or more) so if my socks are not perfection, then I get very grumpy.
- I love chatting with people at the farmers market, although it takes me about a week to recover. I’m not naturally an extrovert.
- I love making bouquets for market, but I hate making bridal bouquets- it’s way too stressful. Been there, done that, don’t want to do it anymore.
- I love white flower, I hate yellow (but everyone else seems to love yellow, so I still grow them)
- I love the peace and quiet when I harvest in the morning, but I hate it when my alarm clock goes off. I’m at night owl, not a morning person.
I love what I do and am so grateful for all of your support! 💕 Thank you!

So many weddings, markets and special orders.
Looking forward to seeing you all over the coming weeks!

July was awesome. It’s a slow time for flowers, so for the past couple of years I’ve been trying to take the month of July “off” from work, mostly to spend time with my kids on their summer break, while they still want to hang out with me.
While there is still a lot to do on the farm it’s also a time to have some adventures near and far.
This July, one of my kids attended a pretty cool soccer camp in England and I decided to tag along with my youngest. We were together for a few days and then he was off on his own for 8 days.
My youngest and I went to some of my old haunts (I went to university in the UK), explored new spots, ate some amazing food and walked several hundred thousand steps. We also drove about 1,000 miles, so we covered some ground.
We are travellers, not vacationers.
Of course we visited some amazing gardens and were lucky enough to attend the Royal Horticulture show at Badminton- what an experience! I may have come home with some cool new snipers and pruners. 😉
Inspired, relaxed and happy 😎

Can you smell these through your phone? They are divine. Our David Austin roses are a passion project. Nova Scotia is not the ideal climate for these, but when they work it’s totally worth it.
