The M113 T-LAV (Tracked Light Armoured Vehicle) is the Canadian Army's upgraded family of M113 armoured personnel carriers, rebuilt from the earlier M113A2 fleet between 2004 and 2009. The program produced roughly 341 vehicles in infantry section carrier, command-post (M577A3), ambulance, titter, and recovery variants, some stretched as Mobile Tactical Vehicles with an extra pair of road wheels. Powered by a tunable 400 hp diesel (governed to about 350 hp), it reaches about 66 km/h and uses Canadian-made Soucy rubber band tracks that improved cross-country mobility and reduced noise and vibration compared with steel tracks. Add-on armour, including bar armour fitted for Afghanistan, and a remote or hatch-mounted weapon station typically armed with a 7.62 mm C6 or .50-calibre machine gun give the crew better protection and the ability to fire under armour. The type saw extensive service with Canadian forces in Afghanistan as an infantry support, convoy es**rt, and base-security vehicle, and it remains in Canadian service for tracked support roles.
