Not Every Decorative Wall Panel Belongs in a Bathroom
Two decorative wall panels can look almost identical and still not belong in the same room. Pick wrong and you find out a year later, when the edges start curling off the wall.
And most of the time, it isn't the installation. It's the material behind the surface.
We're Power Dekor Group, a manufacturer of floor covering and wall panel solutions. Two panels come up in almost every conversation, and they're built for very different jobs.
SPC wall panel — stone plastic composite, with a digital print or film surface. This is the one we point people to for a home bathroom: waterproof protection for wet-area installs, an easy-clean finish, micro-scratch resistance tested at MSR-A1, stain resistance Grade 5. Sizes are 2400/2440/3000/3050 mm long, 1200 or 1220 mm wide, in 4/5/6 mm. Fire reaction: B-s3, d0.
Silica Mineral Wall Panel — quartz, cement, pulp, lime and water. No plastic in it. Fire reaction A2-s1, d0, which starts to matter the moment a project has a fire spec attached to it. It's 100% waterproof and doesn't deform after boiling at 100℃. Density sits around 1050 kg/m³, roughly half that of an SPC panel. Surface options include 3D embossed stone and wood looks, matt and high-gloss. It handles interior and exterior walls: bathroom, public space, outdoor facade.
The pattern we give buyers is simple. Home bathroom, budget matters, decent waterproofing needed — SPC. Public building, corridor, lobby, healthcare, anywhere the drawing says Class A — silica mineral.
The mistake is comparing the two on looks alone. In Europe, the line that decides it is EN 13501-1, and panels sit anywhere from A1 down to F. Same finish, different class, different project.
Installation is the same idea for both: adhesive to the wall, and in wet areas leave the metal trims off and seal the joints with silicone instead.
So which one are you working with right now — a bathroom, a shopfront, or an outside wall?
