Renowned Chinese watercolor master Chen Xidan (born 1936 in Shanghai) has been a pillar of China’s watercolor world for over seven decades. From his early beginnings in the 1950s to his enduring commitment at age 90, Chen’s work reflects a lifelong exploration of color, light, and expressive brushwork. He has played a pivotal role in the development of Chinese watercolor — serving as director of the Quanhua Watercolor Art Gallery in Shanghai, president of the Shenzhen Watercolor Society, and curator of the Shanghai Zhujiajiao International Watercolor Biennial Exhibition — helping bring Chinese watercolor to global audiences.

The Jinni Travel is a compact round brush handcrafted from natural weasel hair, designed for artists who paint on the go. Sharing the same high-quality hair and craftsmanship as the flagship Alpha model, this smaller brush excels in precision while maintaining excellent water retention and spring.

Its distinctive wooden handle comes with a cleverly engineered cap that slides through the handle in reverse direction, protecting the brush tip during transport without compromising its shape. Unlike typical travel brushes, the cap does not convert into an extended handle, ensuring a compact and elegant form.

White Round is a round brush crafted from a blend of natural sable and rabbit hair, offering a noticeably softer touch compared to classic all-sable brushes.

The brush is constructed with longer sable hair at the core and shorter rabbit hair on the outside. This structure provides excellent control similar to traditional sable brushes, while the rabbit hair significantly increases water absorption and paint release.

A hallmark of Jinni’s calligraphic brushes is their unique bristle arrangement. When the tip is gently flattened, the brush behaves like a flat brush, allowing for expressive, controlled strokes. This gives the White Round a rare duality: the precision of a round brush combined with the line-shaping versatility and control typically associated with flat brushes.
