When I moved into my new home, I didn't have a dedicated space for woodburning right away. I ended up working in the dining area because, honestly, it was big, convenient, and the only place that really made sense at the time. But it also meant constantly cleaning up and moving everything whenever it was time for dinner.
After leaving Washington state, I also didn't have much need for a dedicated office anymore. What I didn't realize was that I had also lost a space for creativity. Without a place to leave projects out and let inspiration strike, my creative side started to take a back seat.
Recently, I finally carved out a space just for my hobby, and it's made such a difference. Now my creative chaos has a home of its own, and the rest of my home can actually stay peaceful. Sometimes giving your passion the room it deserves isn't just about organization—it's about giving yourself permission to create again.
The basics 🔥
Natural light was at the top of my wishlist when I was creating this space. It makes long woodburning sessions more comfortable, helps me see every detail of my work, and honestly just makes me happier to be here. My iPad is always nearby for reference photos and designs (or the occasional Podcast or netflix show), my dual woodburning pens let me switch between different tips without constantly changing them, and, of course, there's always a cup of coffee within reach.
Safety first, always. 😷
Woodburning creates more than just pretty artwork—it also creates smoke and fine particles you don't want in your lungs. That's why my respirator is one tool I never skip. A little protection goes a long way.
Comfort above all 😌
Working in social work can be emotionally exhausting, so woodburning is my way of slowing down. It helps quiet my busy ADHD brain and lets me focus on just one thing for a while. Throw in a comfy robe and my favorite candle, and you've got my perfect recipe for relaxing.
