For years, I’ve wanted to push marquetry beyond flat surfaces and allow it to move naturally around corners. To make something that is often quite flat feel more three-dimensional. To create tension between something organic and something more stringent.

I’ve never considered myself an artist. I do, however, identify deeply as a craftsperson. The two do not exist in a hierarchy, but they offer different vantage points. Every piece I create is rooted in my craft; something I find joy in, or want to challenge or explore. I do, however, always leave room for layers and interpretations. My works can mean something if you want them to, but they can also stand on their own as explorations of craft.

There’s a sense of momentum in the workshop these days. I’m wrapping up the final pieces for the exhibition with , more than a year in the making.

Grateful for the extra set of hands from my apprentice , helping bring it all together just in time.

This time of year brings extra hours of daylight - just enough of a push to get it finished.
