Our story begins in Fowwa, a small village that sits on the western banks of the lush Nile Delta. Just a few decades ago, Fowwa used to be a hub for handmade kilim rug weaving and home to thousands of workshops, however with a declining tourism industry and the fast spread of cheaper machine made rugs, Fowwa’s main industry began to fade. With every purchase you are joining Kiliim’s initiative to put Fowwa back on the local and international map for authentic craftsmanship.

Introducing the Lines Collection — a series of hand-drawn printed pieces inspired by the landscapes of Egypt. Rather than imitating the texture of a woven rug, each design uses layered linear compositions to create the illusion of depth, transforming familiar natural forms into graphic patterns that celebrate the beauty of the printed surface.

A single line can reveal very little on its own, but when lines are brought together with varying thicknesses, spacing, curves, angles, and rhythms, they create texture, movement, and depth from an otherwise flat surface.

For this screen-printed collection, we explored how to evoke the tactile richness of a flat-woven textile through print. Unlike handwoven kilim rugs, screen printing cannot reproduce the physical knots, relief, and dimensionality of woven fibers. Instead, we developed an illustration language that builds a sense of texture through layered linear compositions. Inspired by the landscapes and surfaces we encounter throughout summertime, these patterns transform familiar textures into graphic forms, creating the illusion of depth while celebrating the simplicity of the printed surface.
