A designer should be working ahead of time, making summer knits in the dead of winter. And I do that sometimes. But really, I just want to be a seasonal knitter too! I want to knit a summer skirt when it’s warm and sunny. (And I wish I could knit on the pier like in the video but truthfully I got like 5 sts in before I had to help the kiddos.) I’m trying to see if I can finish the skirt in time for Jyväskylä Knit Festival in a couple weeks. Why do you think of my chances?🤭

A little show and tell about what's been on my needles lately.

1) I fixed the fit on my new summer tee and getting ready to release the pattern next week. 🥰 I'm calling this one Phoenix Summer.

2) A sensible designer would work on all their summer designs in the winter/spring to have them ready for release in time for summer. But designers can be seasonal knitters too! I don't feel like summer knitting in the winter. I want to knit something summery when it's summer. So I decided to not care and just casted on for a summer skirt hoping to keep me entertained during summer's knit meets.

3) This is a project that's going to stay on my needles for a while. I'm so proud I made it to Sock Madness final but these socks got me. The winners finished their socks in 18-24 hours while I was still just reaching the first heel! The socks are pretty and all but my scattered mommy brain is taking forever reading the charts. I felt like I was in a different universe compared to the top3. So no glory on the final round but so, so happy I made it there.

I haven't done competitive knitting in ages as I'm too old to stay up all night and with two little kiddos that would just be insane to try. So naturally, I did just that. I can't believe I actually made it to Sock Madness final! Only one person from each team gets there. I had fun proving to myself I could still do it if I just really wanted to. (Granted, I was a zombie for the following week.) The semifinal round started at 1am, after already staying up all day and night... I knitted for a couple hours before heading to bed for a 3 h nap. Got up and continued knitting almost non-stop until 4 am next morning. The last couple hours, I had to knit standing up or I would've fallen asleep. But I made it! It was a nice extra motivation that the semifinal socks were this cute. It's the first pair of the competition I'm keeping for myself.

Life lately

1)-2) Cabing weekend with knitting friends. 🥰 I was working on a sweater and a cowl before Sock Madness round 6 started.

3)-4) It's that time of the year again: I'm walking around the garden at least three times a day just to check if any new flowers are blooming. These peonies won't take long now.

5)-6) This is my latest summer knit. I'm making a t-shirt/top in a silk/cashmere blend and loving every single stitch. How's your summer knitting going?
