In France, Mother’s Day falls on May 31st this year.

It’s never an easy thing to put into words - what a mother truly represents in our lives.

It goes beyond roles or moments.
It’s something quieter, deeper, more constant.

A presence.
A feeling of home.
A way the world has been shaped, often without us even realising it.

So when it comes to choosing a gift, it rarely feels right to go for something ordinary.

It feels more meaningful to choose something that reflects her - not just what she likes, but what she represents to you.

Something unique.
Something that holds emotion.
Something that becomes part of her space, and stays.

Art has a way of doing that.

Not by saying everything directly,
but by holding a feeling that can be returned to, again and again.

A quiet reminder of what she is,
and what she has given.

Love this piece. It has such a calm, nostalgic feel to it - the kind of artwork that completely changes the energy of a room. Inspired by landscape, memory and that sense of “home”, Ruth Waldron’s work always feels both grounding and dreamy at the same time. “Willow Valley” is one of those pieces you notice more every time you look at it. ✨
Beautiful Irish art with so much warmth and depth. You can purchase it now by heading to my website.

Historically, the month of May is associated with Flora - the Roman goddess of flowers, growth, and renewal.

I often think about that connection when working on landscapes at this time of year.

Not in a literal way, but in something more atmospheric.

There is a subtle shift that happens in May.
The landscape softens, opens, becomes fuller - but not yet overwhelming.
Everything feels like it is in the process of arriving.

As a painter, I’m drawn to that moment.

Not the full bloom, but the quiet emergence before it.

Where colour begins to settle into place, where light stretches a little further, and where the landscape holds a kind of gentle anticipation.

It’s less about depicting nature,
and more about responding to what it feels like to be within it.

A sense of growth that is almost imperceptible, but deeply present.

And perhaps that’s what continues to make May so compelling - not what it shows,
but what it promises.

I don’t think this began with painting.

It began much earlier - in small, instinctive ways of making and re-making the world around me.

As a child, I was constantly drawing, filling pages without thinking too much about why.
That impulse never really left, it just changed form.

It moved through different parts of my life - into interiors, into spaces, into working with flowers, textures, objects.

Interior design taught me how a space can hold feeling.
Floristry taught me how composition can be both structured and fleeting.

And somewhere through all of that, painting became the place where everything could come together.

Not as separate practices, but as one continuous way of thinking.
A way of noticing, arranging, balancing, and responding.

Even now, I don’t really see a boundary between art and environment.

I still feel the same instinct - to create something that shifts how a space feels.

To decorate, not just visually, but emotionally. It has never really been about making things.

It’s about re-imagining what is already there.

Creating a sense of home and belonging sits at the centre of my work.

Not as something physical or defined, but as a feeling - subtle, emotional, and often difficult to describe.

I’m interested in the way certain things can reach us before we fully understand them.
A scent. A piece of music. A shift in light.
How they can suddenly bring us back to a moment we didn’t realise we had been holding onto.

I want my work to exist in that same space.

Not as a clear memory,
but as something that feels strangely familiar.

A quiet sense of recognition.
A moment of pause.

Something that connects on a level just beneath language -
where emotion arrives before meaning.

A feeling of déjà vu, without a fixed origin.

And perhaps, in that moment,
a small sense of coming home.

Revival is a large, deconstructed abstract landscape - inspired by lush coastal views, shifting light, and the feeling of fresh air moving through open space.

It’s a piece that sits somewhere between memory and place.
Not a specific landscape, but one that feels familiar — like something half-remembered.

Printed on a poly-cotton canvas with a soft matte finish, the surface holds both depth and subtle texture.
The colours remain vibrant over time, created with water-based HP Latex inks and protected against light and wear.

Framed in solid wood from renewable sources, designed to sit quietly but confidently within a space.
