Lets get real about Paris Olympic apartment rates! They are unreasonable insane. Hotels are at average 900euro a night or even more, and all the little guys are following suit. Why shouldnt they cash in too? they ask! As an accommodation provider i struggle with this and im not afraid to voice it even to my own hosts, that i think its plain wrong to hike up 500X when the service is just the same. Albeit its GOOD service but it goes against all my values for authentic intimate honest experiences!! I have done my best to keep my hosts prices down for olympics period (in the end the cheapest I have being around 350euro a night) but i couldnt do it for all as in the end some of my B&B hosts simply wanted to run with the rest and monetise (though on another level i know how hard they work and they do deserve it) and its been mixed responses from my guests and i sympathise with all travellers. My advice to anyone thinking of travelling in this period is DONT (unless your a moneybags olympic nut) and i know this is very un-business minded of me, but first and foremost im a fellow human and Paris is (and will be) more Parisian when the olympics arent on. note: Olympics run july 26-11Aug but crazy olympics rates could start anywhere from June to September. (again ridiculous) Except for some of my homes where hosts have decided to keep it REAL and welcoming (but sadly and honestly not all). SO...my tip is to visit now to June ideally and then from Sept or October onwards. As for my ACTUAL preferred time to visit Paris: October to April regardless - winter baby!! Its low season, cheaper, all locals are there (Parisians leave paris in the summer) and Paris is not a place you visit for the weather. In saying that its culture, art and lifestyle absolutely lends more to winter activities! Galleries, museums, fireplace bars and cafes, heated terrace seating, and rugged up scarf and beanie walks along the seine, underground jazz bars. Not saying this just for Olympics sake, its honestly my Paris truth. Love you all and id LOVE to hear your thoughts on this!
