🇪🇸 The perfect place to press pause

📍 Casa La Loma, Andalusia, Spain

Last Easter we road-tripped across Andalusia, starting with the incredible processions of Semana Santa in Seville and ending with 5 days in this idyllic retreat in the hills above Lake Iznajar.

Casa La Loma is a beautifully designed 2 bedroom villa with a generous pool and spellbinding views all the way to the Sierra Nevada.

Surrounded by nothing but olive farms, this rural retreat was our base for exploring Granada, Cordoba, Iznajar and Malaga (where we flew home from). But it’s the days we spent by the pool, playing Uno and drinking Tinto de Verano with this gorgeous backdrop, that I’m going to remember fondly forever.

💫 Key info:

- Nearest airports are Granada (1 hour away) and Malaga (1 hour 15).

- You definitely need a car! There is nothing within walking distance but my husband found some great running trails.

- Nearest supermarkets/restaurants approx 15 mins way. The villa offers breakfast, paella and stocked fridge services for an extra fee.

- We paid 220 Euro/ £187 per night in Easter holidays, which I thought was incredibly good value for somewhere so beautiful.

- More information on how to book this villa and things to do in the local area can be found on my blog. Comment ‘Casa’ for details.

I recently went on a costume-drama inspired trip to Yorkshire where I discovered the real star of the show that is Great Britain!

From Bridgerton filming locations at Castle Howard to walking in the footsteps of the Bronte sisters in Haworth, where the windswept moors inspired Wuthering Heights, save this mini guide to Yorkshire if you want to discover some of the best cinematic scenery and literary history of Britain.

I asked my 7-year-old to serve up his hot takes on some of our best family holidays and his answers really surprised me.

I loved that he scored places really high even when he thought they weren’t very child-friendly. And it was so interesting hearing what parts of the trips he remembered because they weren’t necessarily the same as my memories. (His thoughts on Paros really tickled me 😂)

I hope you find Miles’ reviews insightful but if you’d also like to hear my adult take, simply comment ‘reviews’ below and I’ll DM you a link with more details on all the featured hotels and destinations.

Do you have a 7-year-old that thinks like mine?

Santorini is an icon of the Greek Islands and deservedly so. With its whitewashed villages and distinctive blue domes overlooking a caldera – there is literally nowhere else on earth like it.

Add to that some spellbinding sunsets, unique accommodation and delicious wine and you have yourself one of the world’s most popular tourist destinations.

But is it still possible to enjoy Santorini despite the crowds it pulls in? I think so. Not only that but it’s pretty easy to escape them if you know how to.

If you’re dreaming of an stress-free trip to Santorini this summer, comment ‘link’ to read my blog post containing all our Santorini secrets, including a free Google map with pinned locations.

📍 Château Les Carrasses

We fell head over heels for this charming chateau in the South of France, which offers family-friendly, laidback luxury on a 19th century wine estate.

The character-filled chateau & outbuildings have been converted into chic self catering villas and apartments that are both practical and authentic.

It’s easy to unwind here, spending long leisurely days by the stunning heated infinity pool and indulging in meals that look like a work of art at the on-site restaurant. (Don’t worry there’s homemade nuggets & chips for the little ones too!)

Activities at Les Carrasses centre around relaxed, country fun. Our son loved meeting the animals in the mini farm & helping to feed them with farmer Mario.

There’s also tennis courts, boules, free bicycles, wine trails, private pool villas and picnic areas all on your doorstep.

For children aged 4+ there’s a seasonal kids club with a programme based on outdoor adventures and crafts, which leaves the adults free to indulge in wine tastings or spa treatments at sister property .

The local area is both beautiful & laid back. We loved cycling along the Canal Du Midi, wandering Carcassonne & Béziers, and meeting the friendly locals in Capestang. A stunning white sand beach is just 30 mins away in Serignan.

It’s the staff that make a stay here so special though. Whether it’s running luggage to your room, delivering a breakfast tray in the morning or booking a self-drive boat on the canal, the staff cannot do enough to help you and make families especially feel welcome & understood.

We had such an incredible experience staying here over the Easter holidays. You can find a full review of our stay plus helpful tips for planning your trip on my blog linked in bio.
