Emmaüs, is it really worth it? I’m Helen, come along as I visit and make up your own mind!
Here’s the good and the bad, and there’s some ugly too … but first make sure you’re following along for more Brocante adventures
And read to the end for an important Pro tip!
☺️ The good: this is a large warehouse with the donations sorted to a lot of different rooms and lots of space to rummage. You don’t know what you find and you could be very lucky.
The proceeds go to a charity.
It’s also on an island in the River Seine close to Paris, I think that’s cool!
🙄 The bad: there is a lot of junk, but one woman’s junk is another woman’s treasure!
Emmaüs has a reputation for being cheap, and although my English Burleigh milk jug was a bargain, much of the stuff was very keenly priced.
😳 The ugly: some of the staff were smoking inside the shop which personally I find unpleasant.
Pro tip: it really helps if you know the system.
➡️ In each of the shopping areas you select what you want and take it to the assistant, they write out a ticket for the amount you owe which you take to the ‘caisse’ or check out and pay, they stamp your tickets and you then go back to the individual rooms and claim your treasures!
I was happy with my haul today. Let me know your experience of Emmaüs as they all vary.
