Butterflies & Bees 🦋🐝

My latest piece is finished — and this one has been a real labour of love.

Created in Verre Églomisé, Butterflies & Bees brings together a swirling cloud of delicate bees and vivid blue butterflies, all painted in reverse onto glass.
I wanted to capture that feeling of standing in a summer meadow, surrounded by movement — wings everywhere, everything busy and alive.
But look a little closer and individual creatures begin to emerge. Tiny details, delicate wings and patterns, each one slightly different.
I love the idea that the piece changes the longer you look at it.

It’s also a little reminder of how much beauty exists in the smallest things, and how important these tiny creatures are to the world around us. 🌿

The closer you look, the more there is to see.

‘Whale Shark’, this gentle giant has been on my list to complete for a while and it feels good to finally commit him to glass.

The dots on a whale shark aren’t just beautiful—they’re as unique as fingerprints. No two patterns are ever the same.

Their white markings remind me of stars scattered across a night sky. Each whale shark carries its own universe, written across its skin; a constellation that has travelled through the oceans for millions of years.

This Verre Églomisé piece is reverse painted on glass, where layers of colour are built behind the surface before being finished with gilding.

Sometimes the universe isn’t above us. Sometimes it’s swimming quietly beneath the waves. ✨

Being deaf isn’t just about not hearing—it’s about constantly adapting to a world that wasn’t designed with you in mind.

Every day involves challenges that many people never see. Following conversations in busy places, relying on lip reading, asking people to repeat themselves, and sometimes smiling or nodding, trying to fill in the gaps, because you’ve missed part of what’s been said. It’s exhausting.

People often assume that hearing aids or implants “fix” deafness, but they don’t. They are incredible pieces of technology that can help, but they don’t restore natural hearing. There are still moments of frustration, misunderstandings, and barriers to communication.
What makes the biggest difference isn’t the technology—it’s people. Facing someone when you speak, being patient, including us in conversations not brushing us off, and understanding that hearing loss is different for everyone.

My own journey has had its ups and downs, I know many of you followed my last procedure the bone-anchored hearing abutment system that unfortunately failed and had to be removed.
So now, this week, I’m beginning a new chapter having gone through the surgery for my new bilateral Sentio implants.
It’s reminded me that deafness isn’t something you simply overcome—it’s something you learn to live with, adapt to, and grow through.

A little awareness and understanding can make a world of difference to a deaf person.
I’m surrounded by amazing friends and I just want to say Thank you, to everyone who has been supporting me ❤️

This latest little flamingo commission was so much fun,
Reverse painting in pinks and corals and reverse gilded in silver with 24kt gold leaf highlights.

Did you know flamingos aren’t born pink? They’re actually born with grey feathers and turn pink over time thanks to pigments called carotenoids found in the algae and tiny crustaceans they eat!
They also love to stand on one leg, it helps them conserve body heat and save energy 🦩

Commissions with me are currently running at around 12-16 weeks to completion. 🤓

A few weeks back I gave a talk about the history of gilding. I also gave some demonstrations on the skills sets involved in the heritage craft using traditional tools, to a lovely group of students at Rowden fine furniture Atelier

They were a wonderfully engaging group and asked great and very insightful questions. It’s always a highlight in my yearly calendar to give this annual talk, reminds me just how amazing gilding is and as a heritage artist, how important sharing and promoting heritage crafts where I can, is a must, to keep it alive.

Lapis lazuli is known as ‘The Stone of Spirit and Sky’.
For centuries, artists and mystics have crushed the deep blue lapis lazuli into pigment—a color once more valuable than gold. It’s the blue of ancient frescoes, sacred religious robes, and illuminated manuscripts, carrying with it the shimmer of divine wisdom.
In spiritual traditions, lapis is said to open the third eye, awaken inner truth, and connect the soul to higher realms. Its ultramarine hue isn’t just visual—it’s a vibration, a reminder of infinite depth and clarity. When we gaze into that blue, we see both the vastness of heaven and the stillness within ourselves.
A color born of stone, carrying the energy of spirit.
