Worth a quick read…just WOW! Kudos to him on so many levels…not all billionaires are bad 🙌🙌🙌
A fascinating read in the London Sunday Times about the massive restoration of Tottenham House in the Wiltshire Countryside between Marlborough and Hungerford … English financial whiz billionaire Chris Rokos is footing the bill to the tune of £200 Million to restore the wreck of a 200 room Mansion built in the 1700’s with surrounding gardens designed by Capability Brown … up to 500 Workmen, Artisans and Craftspeople are renovating the original period structure and reimagining its future with contemporary energy saving applications and tech advances in compounds, windows, hardware and flooring, while staying true to the integrity of the original structure …. Under the supervision of Architect George Saurmarez Smith, who has worked alongside King Charles on various projects, every square inch of Bath Stone flooring is being replaced, marble mantles and fitting re-created, and staircases, moldings and window frames restored …. Some of the workmen will be on site for 8 years until the project is completed …. The job is so massive that it has brought new life into the crafts professions, on the job training opportunities for specialty carpenters, glaziers and decorative painters …. Mr Rokos is planning for Tottenham to be his forever home, a retreat for family and friends , ensuring its existence for centuries to come as no expense is spared to shore up its old foundations, protect its exteriors from the vagaries of weather changes and ensure its roof keeps out the leaks and resultant rot of successive English rainfalls … for anyone interested in historic preservation and architectural projects this reporting by Robert Watts is catnip for the imagination without having to lay out the weekly payroll and materials bill
