A little glimpse of last year’s Summer End of Year Show, just before visitors arrived.

On Wednesday 22 July, we’ll be opening our doors once again to celebrate the work of our AMUSF upholstery students.

Join us for an evening of inspiring student work, showcasing the traditional and modern upholstery skills our students have developed throughout this year of their training. We’ll also be celebrating this year’s graduates and revealing the recipients of our annual student awards.

Whether you have an interest in upholstery, furniture restoration, craftsmanship, or simply enjoy seeing what local people can achieve through learning a new skill, we’d love to welcome you.

There’ll be plenty to see, friendly faces to chat to, and drinks and nibbles to enjoy as you explore the displays.

Stage 1 deep buttoned ottomans are taking shape nicely.

I love this part of stage 1 ....soooo many different design choices, shapes, sizes, trims. buttoning plans .. allows for people to really show their personality and test their design ideas

There’s something incredibly rewarding about bringing a family piece back to life. Swipe through to see Joanne’s upholstery journey and the transformation of her grandmother’s chair.

“My upholstery journey started last September.

With no experience or sewing skills, I ambitiously chose to do a complete traditional reupholster of my grandmother’s chair!

Jade, Shirley and Claire were amazing and more importantly patient! Happy to show me a stitch technique five times, then again two minutes after walking away!

The class was fun with lots of laughs, tea and biscuits.

It’s not just your own project you become invested in but those of all your classmates, giving lots of ideas and inspiration.

I will be back next term with a new project, a few upholstery skills now under my belt!”

Back to a full week of teaching.after a little op and half term

For many students, their upholstery class becomes the highlight of their week.

Our workshop brings together people from across Kent who share a love of creativity, craftsmanship, and making. Some join us looking for a new hobby, others with dreams of a career change, but all become part of a welcoming and supportive community.

Our AMUSF Professional Upholstery Diploma is taught one day a week during term time, taking students from beginner level through to advanced upholstery skills over three stages.

Along the way, beautiful furniture is restored, confidence grows, friendships are formed, and skills develop that can last a lifetime.

What a transformation!

This classic Parker Knoll wing chair has had a complete redesign, taking it from tired and worn to a real statement ✨

The new buttoned back and bold upholstery completely change the look of the chair, giving it a much more supportive and modern feel while still keeping that classic shape.
