7th of January is the day we eat Nanakusagayu (
herbs rice porridge) in Japan. The seven herbs are believed to ward off evil spirits because they sprout early in the spring. The purpose of this tradition is to pray for good health for the year and to give the stomach a rest after the New Year. I can’t get those specific Japanese herbs here so I made rice porridge with turnip, turnip leaves, spinach and leek with some chicken for protein. My child is not a big fan of the quiet taste of rice porridge but I want to keep the Japanese tradition as much as possible to remind my root😅

Happy 2026!! It’s a year of horse🐴 I’ve been busy cooking and eating traditional Japanese new year food “Osechi”. Now I feel recharged and get ready for creations! I’ll try balancing on both online and markets this year👍
