PART TWO - Bringing a room scheme together
Once the foundations of a room are in place, it’s the layers that make it feel cohesive and considered.
WINDOW TREATMENTS
For curtains, we often lean towards a neutral fabric rather than introducing another dominant colour. For this room, we chose a delicate neutral fabric from that adds depth while still feeling calm and timeless.
Window treatment rules and regulations:
1. Short curtains are illegal.
2. Roman blinds are a yes for most situations.
3. Sail blinds are having a moment and we are here for it.
4. Roller blinds? Only if it’s a gorgeous natural material like this woven bamboo from .dk Otherwise, go for a Roman instead.
5. Don’t be afraid to dress a window with a blind and a curtain. Layer that room!
RUGS & PATTERN
A rug is so important for finishing a space. I can’t stress this enough.
We selected a striped rug from .flooring and repeated that stripe elsewhere in the room. Repetition creates cohesion.
The larger-scale print is by , whose fabrics we’re completely obsessed with. Go and check her out 🤍
If you’ve got a large open-plan room that’s feeling a bit disjointed, zone one area with a rug and thank me later.
HARDWARE & FINISHING TOUCHES
We’ve used hardware, a brand we love and adore. The style comes down to personal preference - modern hardware can modernise a classic shaker, whilst something more detailed can add surprise and character.
is always our go-to for sockets and switches because just look at how beautiful they are.
We love brass because it’s warm, inviting and ages beautifully. Bronze is another favourite and acts almost like a neutral. If silver is your preference, we’d steer you towards nickel, which is much softer to look at.
As we celebrate 5 years of Torn & Cotton Interiors, we’re sharing 5 reels to help answer your design questions.
Save this for later and send to a friend who needs our help 🤍
