The Halloween cat has made it to Newark Showground for this weekends wool and yarn show. He's an experimental work, felting on to linen. A great venue, Im loving the natural light. We have our home produced Leicester Longwool...sheep to yarn, along with Belper hand washed and carded Ryeland, North Ronaldsey and Jacob Cross breed. We have an eclectic mix of yarns for felting, knitting, weaving and crochet. Waterwheel and cardboard looms for weaving. Felting fibres in smaller amounts... and so much more ...yes we have been busy ! If you are at the show do pop and say hello.
Im with Heather on the Emstead Leicester Longwool
Stand.

Wow....I can't believe its Mid August. What a whirlwind July was with two wool fairs and an incredible Belper Woollen Woods . Ive washed, sun and breeze dried, then bundled some Jacobs X sheep fleece ( source Shottle) for spinners and felters wanting to process their own fibres. Ive also bagged up some dyed fibres in small amounts. Im popping them down to MaD Handmade Designs later today. Hoping everyone is well and tolerating the heat.

Thankyou to all that came to say "hello" at the Midlands Wool Show and to those that purchased from Heather and myself at the Emstead Leicester Longwool stall. A quick turn around as yarn bombing for Belper Woollen Woods begins, after a year of preparation and planning.
The knitted ring below is a nod to knitted lace that began on the Framework Knitting looms in Nottingham. This year our displays will be heritage themed for Belper250 celebrations.

Happy Handicrafts Day !
A friend pointed out these fabulous samples posted on the Derbyshire Records Site.
Its only recently that we have become aware that the Strutts produced more than cotton. Check out the Merino ! Im loving some of the names. A real reflection of past times.
Happy crafting !

On Sunday 31st May Belper will be celebrating with the Summer Food Fayre...but of course not all the shops are food related. So whilst your browsing the stalls pop into our local independent stores. Madhandmade Designs are are a great shop for yarns, crafts and gifts. The owners live in and promote Belper and its heritage.
Ill be there on Sunday with my own design waterwheels, cut by 45 degrees.
These are being woven to be included in Belper Woollen Woods 250 event 18th to 31st July. Please feel free to pop in to add to the weaving started at Belper North Mill family day. A true Belper community exhibit.
See Waterwheel examples in comment.
